Thumbs up

Maybe it's just me but I thought about scoops of ice cream for a split second.
A great example of this thread and the people on AVF.

How hard would it be to capture soemthing like that bubble bursting?
I think the timing would be very hard, unless you used something like the camera axe.
But I'm no expert.

probably a silly question but could you just film it in HD and take a still?

yes & no. You'd get a picture but I don't think the shutter speed would be fast enough to capture the detail in it unless the frame rate is super high. Normal video is around 30fps, so each frame is only 1/30th of a second. Too slow to capture the detail... the pic would be blurred.

I've got a casino ex-fh20 which can take slo-mo vids upto 1000fps, but the resolution is something like 350x50 pixels so not use able. You can also take 420fps and 210fps vids which come out around vga resolution which is better but the image quality is nowhere near good enough to take a frame out as a picture.
Still picture wise it can film 40fps, would think it near impossible to capture a bubble bursting. Must need a top end camera and proper lighting.

1080p is only 2 Megapixels, so pretty poor compared to a modern DSLR that is 18Mp.

Shots like that are normally done with a sound trigger, so as soon as it pics up the first sound of the bubble bursting it takes the shot. At least thats how it's done with balloons, not 100% sure it would work with a bubble.

Various reasons listed above, but one way might be to use a high speed film camera. You know, the old fashioned type that uses celluloid film.

I've used one a couple of times about 12 yrs ago for doing slow mo stuff.

From the Red Bull Cliff Diving Series currently taking place in the Azores, these people certainly have a bigger pair than me!

Any guesses as to what this it?

No? It's a 'dry' Niagara falls. Engineers shut off the water in 1969 to repair it.

Shame it's not the Horseshoe Falls, which is what everyone thinks of when they hear people talk about Niagara Falls - I imagine the water was diverted to the Horseshoe falls while they did this though?
