Is it possible to open a word attachment for editing in email broswers?

I was wondering if it's possible to open a word and PDF attachment for editing in you favorite email browser without needing to save it to desktop? I ask this sometimes I need to access my email in an internet cafe and they do not allow you to have full control over the PC. You cannot save things to the desktop or access folders etc etc. I have Yahoo mail and have tried without installing any plugins to do this but it's not possible, unless I am doing something wrong. Are there any other email browsers out there that allow this?

Any help much appreciated

Many thanks in advance

Many thanks for the reply

I have used open office portable on a USB flash drive but that's not going to help much in internet cafe's. Some of these cafe's I have been in restrict the use of flash drives, when you plug them in the drive doesn't show up. If yahoo won't do what I want then I need an email account that I can sign up to and then any emails that come to my yahoo account I will forward to my new email account and then from there edit the word attachment and save it and send it then back to my yahoo account. Now please anyone can you help. I have been browsing the net with no solution. I am sure as I am new to this I am not finding an answer but someone experienced in this may have a solution.

Many thanks in advance

Yes, a Google Mail / Google Docs "workaround" will work.

You need to set up Google Mail to retrieve your email from your other email accounts, and then when an email arrives with a Doc attached (or spreadsheet), there is an option to edit the attachment in Google Documents.

THen once edited in Googledocs, under the Share button you can email as an attachment via the Google Mail.

Many thanks for your excellent reply

I was looking to see if yahoo had this feature and found that Yahoo acquired zimbra and they have something similar Yahoo's secret Google Docs killer: Zimbra | Webware - CNET That article was a little dated but they had said that third quarter 08 there would be a yahoo docs like google docs. Do you know if it's available now?

Anyway for the time being I will be using google docs, is that all free or you need to pay a premium for this service?

I hope you can please answer my questions

Many thanks in advance

EDIT: I have just been using google docs, I didn't have to set up Google Mail to retrieve email from my other email accounts. All I did was send a new email from within my yahoo account to my new google email account. Then I opened the attachment using google docs. Unfortunately when it converts the file, it says something like this document may not preserve it's original format. Well it didn't, unluckily the formatting is all messed up which renders this useless, unless there is a workaround you know of???

I basically need to edit a contract in word format on the move in internet cafe's and that contract needs to look identical in print form as it does if you were to open a word doc on your PC and press print. Right now I am getting words on the wrong pages and grid boxes not showing the lines that make up the grid. I really need to fix this as it's urgent!

Please help guys?

Many thanks in advance

Re: Is it possible to open a word attachment for editing in email broswers?

Okay google docs doesn't seem to be for me. I have used open office portable on a USB flash drive but unfortunately this doesn't work so well. I mean when you take an ODT text file and convert it to a word doc the formatting is also a little messed up. So I was looking at microsoft word and is office 2007 and word 2007 the latest microsoft versions? I checked out thei microsoft page and I don't mind buying the software. Do you know if there is a portable version of word? I cannot find it on the official microsoft website!!!
