Possible swine flu

The wife is home sick, she is a school teacher and was sent home yesterday, she has a flu symtoms, high temp, cough and stiff neck and headache, today one of her collegues rang her to say she has just been diagnosed with swine flu

Is this highly contagious as i dont want it at all( and neither does my budgie)
Down here there are hardly no cases of swine flu but the local GP told us not to come down to the surgery.

no idea, just know that my wife is now very sick, vomitting, high temp, and our gp has told us not to come down to the clinic and they will bring the meds out to the house.

Maybe the school is being over cautious and don't want to take the risk that she has the Swine Flu.
From what i have read there can be mild & severe symptoms, everyone is different.
If the GP has diagnosed her over the phone then he/she must believe it is H1N1.

Without blood analysis impossible to tell whether it is seasonal flu or H1N1...

Just my point, what if it is seasonal flu?

There are already indications that seasonal flu viruses aren’t responding to Tamiflu.

I hope she gets better very soon.

I just can't understand why medically trained persons can be so simplistic in their reasoning that everyone with flu-like symptoms automatically can be diagnosed with H1N1.

Re: Possible swine flu

Hi, I work for the NHS on the Swine flu helpline and if you had called us we NEVER diagnose you with H1N1 as you say we can't because we have not medically treated them with test/swabs. So when they ask us we can only say you may have swine flu or it may be seasonal...

Who's at High Risk From Swine Flu?

In Mexico, the virus appears to be targeting those aged 20 to 40. This is not unusual – the same occurred during the worst pandemic of the last century, in 1918, when 20 to 40 million people died. Young healthy people with strong immune systems react most powerfully to the virus but the very strength of their reaction produces inflammation and secretions in the lungs which can be overwhelming. In the US, the virus appears to be targeting children who are suffering only mild illness. The difference in the two countries is so far unexplained. One hypothesis is that a second virus may be circulating in Mexico which is interacting with the swine flu virus to produce more severe symptoms.
