Singles Holiday Recommendation Please?

So I find myself on my own (as of last week) for the first time in my life, and it is OK. I do need a holiday however; having not had a single day off since April this year. So I have two questions for you (I may put the other one on a separate thread, depends what answers I get here):

1. Has anyone been on a singles holiday - what was it like, and do you have any pointers/recommendations for me?

2. If you were to go on a holiday (anywhere on planet earth) for a week at the end of November 2009, where would you go, and why?

Thanks enormously for anyone's thoughts, and help.

Re: Singles Holiday Recommendation Please?

Assuming you are male ........
Thailand is the only way to go.
Budget (assuming 1 month stay),
1) the return air ticket (between £200 and £400
2) £150 for a nice room for the month (that would include, ensuite, tv, dvd, cable, fridge and aircon)

And then some money for food, beer and girls.
Restaurant food is about £1 a meal (£5 if you like steak, etc.)
Beer costs about £4 (4x 640ml bottles of chang in a bar)
Girls are about £20 a night (not sure I'm allowed to post that here feel free to delete)

Say about £1000 total cost for the month.

Of course the big problem is most men don't want to go home again .... I didn't!

Do you have to pay for the STIs or are they free?

Sorry for slowness of reply. Male, 45. Budget about a grand, and I only have a week. I like culture, cleanliness, warm weather, beautiful scenery, nice people. I want to come back feeling refreshed and energised and relaxed perhaps. I guess I want some 'me' time but also don't want to be isolated, if that makes sense. I suppose I want some fun, but not necessarily "Ibitha' style, which is not exactly my thing. Maybe 'sophisticated' fun describes it better.

Does that help in any way?

Re: Singles Holiday Recommendation Please?

A few years back I was faced with a similar dilemma due to friends having kids, getting married etc. Either stop at home permanently or go away on my jack jones. I've never been on an organised singles holiday but I've been on my own to America 3 times, Paris, Milan, Barbados.

One of the best holidays and worth considering is a trip to Orlando, absolutely great drifting around all the theme parks and you don't get bored. Las Vegas was another good place I enjoyed on my own, again there is loads to do. The only thing I've ever found difficult is going out for a meal on my own, after the first beer though you normally feel less self conscious.

Re: Singles Holiday Recommendation Please?

Go to Malta for a week. Great Place.

I went last year and found myself in a bar filled with beautiful scandanavian women, and that was just one day, if you are a single guy its ideal as the place is crawling with females. Nice weather, nice people, varied food, cold beer, great pubs and clubs and more totty than you can handle.

PS .. The Nordic beauties are all there studying languages so you can chat them up by saying its a chance for them to practice their English. But bring a bucket of beer from the Bar when you approch, they are Vikings after all ..

Re: Singles Holiday Recommendation Please?

las vegas is amazing and there is a huge mix of things to do, shows, food, gambling, scenery with a helicopter flight into the grand canyon etc as well as strip clubs and more adult things. Of course its a hell of a long way to go for a week.

How about a safari in south africa? that has the scenery, the weather and if it's anything like the place we went to you all eat together in the evenings around a big fire and you would be with a few other people in the jeep. we stayed at mala mala which was unbeliveable but out of your price range. Again though alot of traveling for a short time, but it will be a life highlight.

Re: Singles Holiday Recommendation Please?

I'm always amazed that someone always brings up STD's, ever heard of 'safe sex'? I don't know of anyone out here who has caught a disease (yet), and I'm pretty sure they would tell me if they did.

Buddhists are not sexually repressed like those of us with Christian upbringings, so yes there are a lot of lady-boys, katoeys and gays around and they are generally very nice people.

Of course the impotent difference for western males out here, is nobody gives a hoot about your age or sexuality. If you are 65 and you want a 25 year old girlfriend or wife, that is never a problem. But it is almost impossible not to gain a girlfriend while out here, hard to believe until you actually stay out here.

Re: Singles Holiday Recommendation Please?

I love how western men have convinced themselves they have a 'girlfriend'..............

Paying some girl to be with you doesnt make her your girlfriend, it makes her an employee! (or slave, not sure which?)

I am guessing your one of the guys who thinks that when they go to a lapdancing club in the UK that the girls REALLY did like you!!

By the way I am all for some fun in Thailand if your circumstances suit (always said I would be over there in a flash if I was ever single again!) but convincing yourself this is anything other than a financial transaction is just plain sad!

Re: Singles Holiday Recommendation Please?

Going pretty off topic this one...and how!

juniper, my sister just came back from Havana for a week and loved it. She went on her own, never been before and didn't want to come back. She's travelled quite a bit and said the people were incredibly friendly tho obviously everyone has different experiences. It's about 32 degrees out there at the moment, cost wise I think it came to ~£700 including flight and a good hotel

Sorry off topic again .....
1) You end up paying much more for sex in the UK (I paid my exwife £200 a go according to the divorce settlement)
2) Never been to a lap dancing club, I was married and faithful for 30 years in the UK until my ex-wife had an affair with the gardener, then took me to the cleaners.
3) Glad to hear it.
4) All sex ends up being a financial transaction for men. Not realising that is just plain sad!
