The most annoyed you've ever been... EVER

Back in late 2006, when I was in year 11, my Graphic Products coursework - apart from a load of research, analysis, evaluation and other crap - was to create a point of sale display and eventually construct a full-size model. WELL, after spending the last week of November making scaled down prototypes - that is, spending roughly four hours on each model drawing the net on a very large sheet of construction card, CAREFULLY marking the folds accordingly, using a Stanley blade to cut the whole thing out, constructing it and then taking pictures of it from all angles, while, alongside that, writing a step-by-step guide on my progress of each prototype, as we were required to do

...I made nine of these prototypes

SO, the day after finishing my final prototype, I put all of my models in a box and placed it on the chest of drawers in my bedroom so that they wouldn't get damaged. The same day, my older sister decides to stay the night with her three children, which means my bedroom would off limits to me as my sister would be staying in there with her eldest daughter, Rosie, who was little over a year old at the time. The next day, I awoke from the sofa and made my way to the kitchen, to which my sister greeted me with, "By the way, Rosie broke those things in the box on your drawers." I was like, "Wait, what...?", and that was all she bloody well had to say! I ran to my room, found the box on the floor, opened it and there, staring up at me, were my nine prototypes, turned into millions of tiny prototype pieces. My sister had given Rosie the box, not knowing what was in it, then went back to bed leaving Rosie to reap havoc on my models.

My reaction? Put it this way, my face turned a new shade of red and my bedroom wasn't in a very nice state after I'd gone ballistic. I'd never felt rage like that before . All of that hard work - gone. I had to make a whole load of new models by the 8th of December, which meant going through the WHOLE process again. The second lot I made were appauling, but I still got a B for the coursework in the end .

Re: The most annoyed you've ever been... EVER

Most annoyed I've ever been was when I had my car stolen (before my driving licence was revoked).

Can't even describe the feeling I had when I went to go to the car and it weren't there.

I was hoping to hear that my car had been written off and the passengers had died on impact but unfotunately it wasn't to be.

I handed my folder in to the teacher, which was about 30 pages of A3 paper of written up coursework as well as about 40 pages of sketches and design ideas/notes, the next week in the graphics lesson I go up to him and ask him if I could get my work as I needed to work from a couple of the plans I'd drawn up and he said "Why would I have it" and I told him that I gave it to him last week and he denied any knowledge of it, at this point I thought I was going crazy, knowing that it wouldn't fit in my locker, I checked the few places in school it could be - the cupboard in our form room, the graphics storage room and all the cupboards in the graphics classrooms we used, it wasn't in any of them, nor was it at home. When asking one of my class mates if he'd seen it he said, "yeah you gave it to sir last week when I did" we told him this but he denied it even though I knew he had it...
So with only a few weeks left to finish my coursework I had to start everything over again, I did everything on the computer this time rather than hand writing and drawing stuff up, in 2 weeks I managed to write up my coursework, design and build a couple of aftershave and perfume boxes and submit it getting a B in the end. My box was still on display in the graphics cabinet of outstanding work when I left 6th form 2 years later.

I wasn't overly annoyed like you describe yourself being, I was rather blasé about it all and almost didn't bother re-doing the work because I didn't see why I should have to, but I realised that it would only be me that lost out.

The most annoyed I've ever been... I actually don't know... I never really get overly annoyed so I can't pick anything out.

Even when I'm really annoyed, no one would know..

I've been waiting twenty-six years to let it out...

Re: The most annoyed you've ever been... EVER

Hmm difficult but I remember when I was 13-14 I was told that my younger cousin (6-7 at the time) had been kicked in by a group of boys that were my age. I literally exploded as did my older brother so we paid them a visit that same day and taught them a serious lesson. My Gran gave us both 20 guilders (around £7) each at the time and so did each of my uncles.

Re: The most annoyed you've ever been... EVER

@ICCZ

As a parent, teachers really annoy me.

They make msitakes just like any other people but they just won't take responsibility for them. They close ranks and blame the child.

I've seen this happen quite a number of times so it's not just a 'one off'.

And the worst thing is, that you know that teachers are so precious and thin-skinned that you fell you can't say anything about it in fear that they will take it out on your child some way or another.

So you just have to take it and tell your child to "just accept that the teacher is blaming you but I know that it wasn't you - okay".

And before the teacher brigrade jump on this - YES I know I've written this very generically and YES I know that not all teachers are like this, but I have personal experience of many episodes ranging from trivial to one very major - and the school I'm talking about is a very good one - not talking about a failing school with demoralised teachers.

Cheers,

Nigel

This plays the other way mainly.

The kids are awful and parents treat school like a free babysitting service and expect the teachers to do their job for them.

The kids are so precious and the teachers can't say anything for fear of harming poor little Johnny's emotional state, no matter poor little perfect Johny is a prime spolit little brat with no self control, manners or common decency.

Re: The most annoyed you've ever been... EVER

The other night I was dressed in my camo gear and wearing my night-vision goggles while playing COD4 and I had a six-kill streak and was just about to take number seven out and call in a chopper when my wife came in and turned on the light which temporarily blinded me because of the night-vision goggles and I ended up getting killed before I got to seven kills and I got so mad that I threw her out the window.

Don't worry, this isn't true.

The worst part of it all was he took it in to go over it to advise me on changes to make etc, I was happy enough with it but he insisted on checking it over as he regularly went through everyone else's, he took mine and someone else's at a weekend (I said it was okay as I was going to conduct my questionnaires at the weekend so didn't need it to do work on) then when arriving back it'd just vanished...

The problem is, not all kids are "awful", I most certainly wasn't, I was pretty much the quiet one who would get on with their work in the corner, there was no reason for my coursework to go missing (even if I was a problem child this can not be justified) and I would have been fine about things (obviously a bit miffed) if he'd accepted the blame and apologised and offered to help me catch up.

I understand teachers don't have it easy with a lot of kids and some parents are a it OTT, but there are still times when the teachers need to admit their wrongs just like they make their students do it.

If that happened to my daughter, I'd be straight down to the school asking for an explanation of why they'd lost a significant chunk of her course work.

If my Dad found out about this he would have caused a huge scene and I just couldn't be bothered with that as it'd have not got anywhere and it wouldn't have got my work back, so I just got on with my work again instead of causing a fuss.

Ok.. the most annoyed I can remember.. is right now.

I helped the girlfriend with her CV, but apparently the mobile phone number on it was incorrect. She's sent this out already for job applications, and she now blames me.

The really annoying thing is that I'm always there to support her in everything, but to have it thrown back in my face. Why would I want to support her again?

Similarly in a work environment, if a manager delegates work.. it is still the manager's responsibility for that work. She should have checked it thoroughly for mistakes.

Defence mechanism - she knows she should have checked, but it's easier to blame someone else, and it sounds like you're a laid back guy so she knows you'll take it.

I'll be back in a minute with more advice, I'm just going to check if my degree in Armchair Psychology has arrived yet.

Because over-reacting over a silly little mistake isn't worth the fuss, just apologise and say sorry that you didn't realise that it was a mistake but at the same time she didn't and the chances of it being an issue, and unless that's her only point of contact i.e. no landline then it will not be a problem.

This is exactly my view on life, I apologise for things even when I don't think they're my fault. But you know when your bottle things up for so long, and think about how much you do to keep the peace, it can be difficult.

Really? I know you'd get more intelligent conversation from a pigeon, but she strikes me as utterly benign and actually fairly likeable for having a complete lack of duplicity and guile. There are far more annoying people on X-Factor, such as Louis "I'm from Ireland" Walsh, or those twins.

Been there many a time but I don't think you would.

Sure you would get angry and decide to take it up with the school but then you'd think, but it could just make it worse for my child - will the teachers take it out on him\her - I'm not sure they would but I have enough doubt not to risk it.

Cheers,

Nigel

Re: The most annoyed you've ever been... EVER

An hour ago, just about to take the dogs out for a walk. I pop upstairs to get changed and come downstairs about a minute later to find a rancid, reeking, steaming dump on the dining room floor.

It's not the fact they he shat that annoys me, it's the fact that he waits for the second I leave the room to do it.

I wouldn't get angry, because that gets you nowhere when arguing with people. But I think we could reasonably ask what happened to the work that was handed in, bearing in mind that a lot of effort was put into it.

I can see you've regressed to angry caveman mode just thinking about it.
