sod it I am changing my dentist and its back...

to the NHS.i am fed up with paying exorbitant fees - 60+ for the hygenist, £25 for a check up £600 + for a crown and root filling.Enough is enough! And people complain about postmen going on strikeWith dentists and other professional groups gaily ripping off the public, I say strike hard i say for better pay and conditions!Whats good for one lot is good for the rest.

Someone mentioned that NHS dentists receive about 80-90k pa.In my book that is enough

That's expensive, mine charges £48 for the consultation and the hygenist combined.

Mine is £45.60 for a hygienest and general checkup. I do get it back though as I'm a student.

Re: sod it I am changing my dentist and its back...

I pay £11 p/m but don't pay for checkups or hygenist.

All the bigger jobs are discounted too. I've had a single bad tooth for years and finally got the filling changed to white last year, which only cost £40

Should be free as part of NI contributions in my opinion at the very least basic checkup's and a clean every six month's.

I pay £19 a month to Denplan.
I get dentist check-ups and hygienist every three months for that.
The wife is £11 a month, because she's on a six month plan.

Re: sod it I am changing my dentist and its back...

I pay £10 per month.

That gets me

2x check up
2x dental hygenist
20% off other treatment

Cheers,

Nigel

Oh, maybe not, they're white!

Does the Swede talk like the muppet chef?

I've just had my first check up for over 5 years. It cost £45 which included an X-ray and I was in the lab for 10 minutes.

I'm not that fussed about the cost think, I was visiting a professional after all (that she was very attractive, presented in a skirt, with peach coloured high heels and aged 50 yet looked no older than 35 was a bonus )

I need a filling, at £68. A cap replacing also at £68 and to see hygienist at £51. Is this quite reasonable? I've agreed to it all anyhow, £250 on the dentist over 5 years is quite affordable although obviously not everyone is so fortunate treatment wise.

Round our way it's barely any cheaper to go NHS, plus it's the usual story of not being able to get registered. I don't mind paying the little extra for private, I get to watch top gear on the ceiling tv! Simple minds and all that...

Agreed, it's only a couple of quid more and as there isn't an NHS option anyway, that rather solves the issue...

I haggle with my dentist - I can usually negotiate a good price for treatment. He is quite expensive, but well worth it. Nothing worse than toothache.

I pay £25 for a check up every 6 months, can't remember what the hygienist costs, but only went once, and he said I was doign a good enough job on my own.

They're obviously making a few bob in there though. They have 2 huge waiting rooms, beautifully decorated, massive plasma tv's and all the latest dentistry gizmos

I must be in a minority.

Found NHS dentist with no issues over the past few years. Recently moved, signed up to waiting list, had appointment through in about 3 months.

A few years ago my family's dentist announced he was changing from NHS to private and unless you opted out he'd register you as a private patient and you'd have to pay for work. 3 months later there was a new Jaguar XJR parked outside and 6 months later everyone in the village knew he'd moved into a huge house on the outskirts of town and then there was a rumour he'd bought a Villa in Spain the next year! needless to say the number of patients he had started dwindling!
