Thanks: Gave 1,945, Got 1,030 | Storing a tent in a shed - what do people think??
In the past couple of weeks I've finally bought (and erected) my first shed (aged 30), so I'm now scouting round for things to fill it with......got the usual so far, kids bikes, lawnmower, strimmer, some paint pots...........
However, me and the wife have had our bloomin' tent package in our bedroom for about 12 months now, and seeing as we're currently decorating our bedroom, I'd like to be able to store it somewhere else, as its quite a big bundle even when the tent is 'down'........
So, what do people think about storing our tent (in its bag) outside in our shed?? It was quite an expensive one when we bought it (~£250 iirc), so I'd hate to put it out there and come to use it next summer and its either mouldy or withered......
Anyone else storing tents in sheds? If so, how has it worked out for you?
Strange request I know, but there'll be someone with some thoughts on it, I'm certain.

It depends on the shed, but on the whole I would recommend against it.

Ive stored thousands of pounds worth of tents and mountaineering kit in sheds for over 20 years now ....just fine
as long as its a watertight shed, raised off the floor, with a locked door, felt roof...you know, the usual kind of "off the shelf" tongue and groove type shed then I cant see any problem
...most of my kit is for use down to -40 or so (I used to winter climb) so living through a few degrees below on the very odd cold day in winter has been no problem
..usually before I go climbing, ive got it all out the week before checked it and aired it in the house ...thats about it really

Should be OK in a shed as long as there is no damp about. Mildew can form if left for long periods in damp conditions (damp air).

I've got three tents (and a folding camper) stored in my shed. Provided it's watertight they should be fine.

as long as the tent its self is dry it should be fine.
also keep it out of sunlight, i have a damaged tent because it was getting sunlight every day for a year.

Don't put it on the floor. I stored all my camping equipment - big tent, a few sleeping bags etc on the floor of a concrete garage and when I came to use it the following spring the mice had decided it would all make a wonderful home, ruining the lot!

I store all our camping, walking and climbing gear in my shed. We bought a few of those large water and vermin proof storage boxes form B&Q and these do the trick, so much in fact is that we can just lift the boxes into the car and away we go!

My tents seem fine in the shed, as above! Lucky really as one is so damn big I would never get it in the loft.

Thanks everyone for your thoughts so far -I like the sound of them storage boxes that you make reference to Dunks, might have to check them out. I presume they make them pretty big then? As my tent (even when packed away) is quite a big lump.....
My shed is watertight, out of direct sunlight, and raised from the floor on some small paving flags, so I'm guessing that all should be ok then? Would be agreat relief if so, as I'm sick of looking at it in our bedroom
