How to remove wall plugs?

Hi Guys,

I have loads of wall plugs from the old owners left over in the bathroom question is, how do I remove them so I can fill the holes and then paint the wall without having any bumps on the walls?

Re: How to remove wall plugs?

Put suitable size screw into plug then use fork end of hammer to remove

Re: How to remove wall plugs?

You will cause less damage to the wall if you punch the plug in before filling.
As above just use a fat screw to knock the plug in a bit.

Re: How to remove wall plugs?

....just been doing some....as above punching in is better....plus the fillers got something to grab onto.......if you cant push it in ...nibble around it with some side cutters.......
trouble with filling big holes left by them is the filler tends to sink after a time...so you end up applying more once set.
cheers.

Re: How to remove wall plugs?

Knocking them in and filling over works best for me.

Re: How to remove wall plugs?

I either use a pair of pin nosed pliers to pull it out

OR

Get a large screw that wont go into the wall plug and a hammer and knock the wall plug into the wall (using this method if too hard to get out by the first method)

Re: How to remove wall plugs?

Aren't these 'rawl' plugs rather than 'wall' plugs?

Re: How to remove wall plugs?

I just did the screw and pull the out with the hammer bit, pulled alot of plater off but thats what polly filler is there for

I tried the hitting it in further first and thats what didnt work, the pulling it out with plyers was just breaking them in little pieces

Its all out and filled up just drying now

I say we take off, and nuke the exit holes from orbit. It's the only way to be sure.

Rawlplugs is probably the 'trademark' name, like sellotape vs sticky tape, etc

Re: How to remove wall plugs?

Rawlplugs are to wall fixings as Hoovers are to vacuum cleaners.

I still hoover the carpet with my Dyson, and any piece of plastic in my wall is a rawlplug...

Re: How to remove wall plugs?

I always simply screw in a screw that is slightly to big for the rawl plug, about half way on average depending on how stuck in the plug is.

Once it's half way in, I then use normal pliers to grab the screw and ease it out.

Normally less mess than trying to grab the edges with pincer pliers or the banging it through into the cavity technique.
