Furniture Advice

Looking for some decent bedroom furniture.

Just had a wee look through the Next Catalouge, and we like the Hampshire Set.

NEXT Directory - Search Results for hampshire

For what we want its £1075

Its not even soild pine, oak or anything, its an oak veneer, why so expensive ?

Anyone recommend decent furniture like this, at a little better prices ?

Re: Furniture Advice

I've had furniture from Next before and have to say the quality is not great. It's built well but the veneer is very thin and therefore prone to scratching.

To be honest you'd be as well off with something from Ikea although £1200 for a set of bedroom furniture doesn't sound that expensive to me.

Your other option would be to wait for the new year sales and get something better for a similar price.

We have this furniture in our bedroom and can recommend it, especially as they build it for you. It is quite a bit more than the next stuff but we got 20% off in the sales.

Re: Furniture Advice

I've just ordered some bedroom furniture for my daughter's room and that came to just over a grand (we bought it on a 20% day so that helped a little).

What you are seeing are prices typical of the market. We looked around for ages and prices were pretty similar.

To be honest what you have linked is higher quality than what I have just bought. Your stuff is at least Oak Veneer, the stuff I bought is laminate effect.

I think the furniture retailers are being really squeezed. Most of the stuff comes in from Europe so the £ losing almost 40% against the Euro must be really hitting. And with the recession, every place we visited (except Ikea which is always packed) was desolate. I don't think they have anywhere to go - difficult to reduce prices because they are paying more, less people buying so income is falling.

Cheers,

Nigel

Re: Furniture Advice

Thanks everyone, I didnt realise this was the norm for bedroom furniture. Our current pine stuff was only £400 for a set of bedside tables, a chest of drawers and a dressing table with mirror. I suppose you get what you pay for.

We really want Oak, and like this stuff

Hunston Solid Oak Bedroom Furniture - Oak Furniture - Furniture from Furniture Today

It's going to cost us £2000 with their extra 10% off, but its solid Oak and should last a while ?
