Oakley Warranty

Hi guys

Not sure if this is the right section to post this but didn't know where else to put it.

I recently sent a pair of Oakleys (A-wires) back to be repaired (the lens coating was peeling off), subsequently they've told me they no longer stock this model so can't replace the lenses. They've also said that they aren't covered under their warranty as they were purchased from ebay (these were absolutely brand new, in original box with original micro fibre bag and registration form) so they won't replace them with a similarly priced model.

Are they able to specify such things in the terms of their warranty? Should I not be covered under UK law for at least a year for any new product to be free from manufacture defects?

Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated

Ye, I've seen that before, but surely a product is covered under standard UK Law to be free from manufacturing defects - which should supercede the Oakley Warranty policy? Please correct me if I'm completely off the mark though, just trying to get a fair deal.

You are off the mark.
As has been said many times on this forum, your contract is with the retailer you purchased from, not the manufacturer.

Re: Oakley Warranty

Unfortunately you are S.O.L on this one. Oakley are very strict on dealer licensing etc... so if you bought from ebay they're never going to be covered!

The opticians I got my RX Oakleys done at told me that they can not discount Oakley not even for staff. If they did and Oakley found out they'd lose their license to sell them! I believe Maui Jim operates similar policies.

Its the same as watches, I think Tag, Brietling, Rolex etc... make it quite clear that their watches are only available through registered dealers and if you buy from else where then you're not covered by any warranties etc...

Please refer to my previous post.

Thanks for the help guys. They have offered me a 40% discount on any new Wire model so, from what you've said, sounds like I'm lucky they've offered that Just don't think there's any I like at the moment.

If you bought your Oakleys from a registered/licensed Oakley dealer then your glasses would go to Oakley to be repaired under warranty, I know, I've done it!

Sale of Goods act may make provisions for retailer responsibilities, but you would only need that if Oakley refuse to repair because you didn't buy from a licensed purveyor (as per the OP), but I was simply reinforcing the fact that he's SOL trying to get anything from Oakley!

Oakley UK, I sent them straight back to them, didn't bother going through the retailer as I thought it was Oakley's responsibility to repair them.
