Anyone commute by Train to work and/or from Leeds?

Hi

I'm going to start my new job in Leeds on Monday. After being almost 10 months out of work I am nervous and excited at the same time. As I live in Manchester and my work is right next to Leeds central train station I decided to commute by train everyday as I couldn't find cheap all day parking.

So anyone who is from Leeds do you know any cheap parking places nearby?

Does anyone else commute to work by Train how do you find it? I'm buying a seasonal train ticket as I was told by Virgin Trains that is the cheapest way to travel. Do you have any money saving tips as I will be spending over £3,000 a year travelling?

Thanks for taking time to read my post.

You can park the car in roundhay/harehllls and bus it to town/walk.
Where in the centre are you going to work? Roundhay is only about 10 mins walk from town centre and its free.

Re: Anyone commute by Train to work and/or from Leeds?

I work in Leeds probably very close to you from the sound of it.

Depends on what you call 'cheap' with regard to parking, but there's a couple of car parks next to City Walk / Bewleys Hotel that cost £3.20 a day for one and £3.50 a day for the other (open 7am to 7pm). That's literally a 5 minute walk from the train station.

That's where I've been parking for the past year, but recently I've decided to start saving myself a bit of money and parking for free a bit further out at the other side of the M621. It's a 15 minute walk from the car now instead of the 2 minutes it was previously, but it'll save me around £70 a month. It costs me £240 a month in petrol just to get to Leeds and so every penny saved counts.

Oh and good luck with the new job.

Princes Street it's literally a 30 second walk from the station. I'll look into that area thank you. Last thing I want is to park in an area where my car may get vandalised

Agreed, I think that's right, I think you'd struggle to do any better than this.

Frankly though, I'd stick to the train, the M62s a nightmare most of the year round.

Hope it all goes well tomorrow!

Just out of interest, how long would the drive from Manchester to Leeds take?

As for carparks, there's a NCP next to the station, as well as another carpark nearby in Criterion Place, but I'm not sure how much they cost.

Re: Anyone commute by Train to work and/or from Leeds?

When I went to my interveiw I parked at the station car park expecting/assuming it would be like any other car park. After an hour interveiw I returnedback to my car; inserted my ticket and to my horror it read £25

I had parked in an all day car park which costs £25 regardless of how long you stay there for. I think it was the NCP one.
