DVLA and identity theft

I had a letter from the DVLA telling me I have to renew my photo-card picture. This is law and has to be done every 10 years or you are fined £1000. I don't have a problem with this (I do with the £20 fee and I have to pay the postage but thats another matter)

What I really find amazing though, in this day of identity theft is they expect me to send my old licence and photo card back in the post with my cheque.

So basically I am sending back my name, date of birth, address, signature, driver number, bank details on the cheque, and photograph in the post. I'm sure a scammer would have a field day with those.

I find it amazing in this day of high tech technology that stuff like this has to be posted anymore.

Re: DVLA and identity theft

did some work on systems for a middle east country, and they had centers in every town where you could go in and produce your documents and have your photo taken and get your new ID card, work permit, driving licence and passport, all printed whilst you wait.

That's the way it should be.

Re: DVLA and identity theft

If you do it online you do not have to send docs in ,they will ask you to destroy old when new turns up.
