Just wondered really. French contraption but quite useful really,We had one in Argentina and i never knew what it was for as my parents didnt seem to think it was worth telling me .Anyway as a kid I use to wash my feet in them as it was at an ideal height. i have used them since then for their proper purpose and i must say they do beat the flannel hands down

When i went to Egpyt, they have a similar thing built into the toilet, a nozzle aimed at your bottom and you just turn the tap on! Thought it was brilliant to have it built in , but a bidet seems rubbish in comparison as you have to walk over pants by you ankles to use it!
I thought it was nice to have, I just tried it from a hotel but I still don't have it yet at our house. Because, I know that it was not yet necessary for us to have.
My mum got one when I was a nipper and I asked her what it was for "washing your feet" she told me and I believed her up until I was about 18!
I still would rather use toilet paper though.

I have had one in my huuse for over 10 years. I think its a cool idea. It also helps us when the family wash for prays. Saves on time and waster wastage.
We have 2 bathroom suites in the house and have 2 of um

What does that mean? I know that this text will sound like I'm being antagonistic or smart mouthed but it's totally not meant like that, I just can't get the meaning of that sentence.

I think he means his family use the bidet to wash before praying. Which Muslims do.
EDIT: Ive used a similar thing in Saudi Arabia. They are basically like mini shower heads and you simply press the button for water. In Jeddah airport I underestimated the water pressure, held the button down fully (as I used to in the hotel) and water went over my trousers! It looked like I had wet myself
You guys should check out the ones they have in Japan! The bidet function is integrated in their standard loo's there - I say standard but some of them have enough controls to rival the Starship Enterprise!! As I stayed in various places, I was able to try out a number of different 'Loo's" out there and even the bidet function has lots of various options to choose from! I don't want to get too graphic for obvious reasons but there is:
The standard up-jet of water,
up-jet of water with back & forth travel
Pulsed up-jet of water
Pulsed up-jet of water with back & forth travel
Combination of pulses & stream (with or without travel!)
All of the above with variable intensities & rates!!!
I have had a Bidet in my bathroom for the last two years and would not be without one. I never had one before and never really understood what they where like you, until I went to japan.
About 70% of homes in Japan have them but they are not the traditional stand alone bidets, they are much better. In Japan they call them washlets and in the US they are known as Bidet Toilet Seats. They install on your existing toilet and have heated seats and you can control the water temp and pressure and a whole lot more.
I just love mine and would never go back to toilet paper again. Hope that helps
