Hullabaloo with the local heddlu.

Mmmm

BBC NEWS | Wales | South West Wales | Blind man arrested over protest

Maybe he should have let the tyres down of the police who arrested him!

Threats To Cause Criminal Damage became an offence about 2 years ago.
Should never have been arrested for it though, very bad show!

Re: Hullabaloo with the local heddlu.

I have a sneaking suspicion that whilst the story may be based in truth it isn't quite the whole truth as my guess is that the police version may be slightly different to that of Daniel Duckfield

How would he know he wasn't letting the tires down on an ambulance?

Re: Hullabaloo with the local heddlu.

It's a sorry state when the police do nothing about your complaints other than arrest you for complaining...

It seems to me I am more likely to get arrested for asking the police directions or the time - because I am time wasting - than I am for actually committing any crime...

Sorry, but whilst I am an "middle-aged, upstanding member of the community, company director, law abiding citizen, and all that", I simply have zero respect for the police these days, primarily for their silly behaviour like this news item.

They tend not to do that when they're parked up waiting for the paramedics to stretcher-out some poor bugger who needs to get to hospital quick.

Thumbs down Re: Hullabaloo with the local heddlu.

Hi,

As IanJ said above, there is probably more to this story, than has initially been reported, but even disregarding that, this is very bad for showcasing the British police as good, hard-working, decent members of society. The more stories you read and hear over recent months, the more communist or Stazi-like the police seem to become.

If it's not wanting to help you because you may be wasting their time, it's them wanting to arrest you over pathetically, stupid issues. And that's even if your feet actually hit the ground in the first place, because they've not simply arrested you for existing!

I want to support the police, and say they are good people doing a valid job, but it gets tougher every time you read or hear of stories like this, because men (and women) with a badge, think that it makes them god-like! They no longer uphold the law; they just think they are the law.

To all the Americans who come here, I should point out that "Heddlu" is Welsh for "Police". Because, so far, no-one else here has done so.

How many Welsh people speak Welsh as their first language anyway? It's a total nonsense having all the bilingual signs etc in Wales, especially in South Wales.

It makes life very difficult when driving and trying to find your way around as each signpost has the place name written twice so they can end up quite cluttered

Must be really hard if your trying to find Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysilio gogogoch train station.

Yes this station actually exists in south Wales!

Approximately 27% of the population of Wales can speak welsh, with around 21% being fluent. That includes English people like me that have moved into Wales, and learnt the language (not yet completely fluent). This figure is ever growing, especially with younger people - my son managed to be fully bilingual before 5 years old.

It's an important part of the Welsh peoples cultural identity, and should be nurtured. After all, Welsh is the most widely spoken version of the original language of the British Isles.

Back on topic - I'm sure there is much more to this story that meets the eye.

Especially as the Welsh bit is on top so you have to read the bit you don't understand first!
I live 7 miles from where the chap in the story is from. I always chuckle when I see the sign for Arberth Narberth.

Kids pick up languages very easily. At the age of 5 I was also bilingual after living in the Middle East for six months i was as fluent in Arabic as any 5 year old could be.

Unfortunately when I got back to the UK I forgot it almost as quickly.

Irrational nonsense ... as a media studies type, surely you'll be well aware that bad or sensational news sells and everyday good deeds or those above and beyond the call of duty will largely go unreported, apart from when it comes to some annual ITV/redtop heartwarming stories of courage awards.

Now, just because I take issue with yet another overreaction of yours, don't start shouting cyberbully again

Please take this as your final warning as whether you agree with Pooch's opinions or not we are all getting a bit fed up with the way that you and your partner in crime continually stalk him to rubbish anything and everything he says.

Don't talk to me about the Heddlu. Just returned from a weekend in New Quay, West Wales and a 'Notice of Intended Prosecution' just arrived in the post: Speed camera must have got me.

The irony is that I was obsessively trying to stick to the limit the whole journey. My wife kept taking the **** because I was allowing lorries to overtake me on the M4. Must have had a lapse at some point and put my foot down slightly.

The irony is that I was obsessively trying to stick to the limit the whole journey. My wife kept taking the **** because I was allowing lorries to overtake me on the M4. Must have had a lapse at some point and put my foot down slightly.

Bugger

You are another victim of the 'Traffic Taliban' (Google it to see just how diabolical the local chief is).

Glad that they have managed to eliminate all serious crime in North Wales though and are consequentially able to direct large amounts of valuable police resources to persecuting motorists. Much easier than tackling anti-social behaviour (thus looking good for the statistics) and far more lucrative too.....
