Holiday - Last minute hotel change - advice please

So, me and the missus booked a last-ish minute week away to Majorca and have just had an email telling us that the hotel we booked is full and we have been booked into a different hotel.

We booked the hotel we did because we had been there before, after checking up on the hotel they have swapped us to we've discovered that it has half the facilities of the one we originally booked.

After a bit of searching I've found another hotel from the same holiday company we booked through (they shall remain nameless... for the time being) which offers similar facilities to our original choice however is slightly more expensive than what we booked - only by about £10 each.

I've emailed them asking for this hotel instead of the one they elected to put us in, does anyone know where I stand? Do I have any chance of winning this argument with them?

Edit: they have offered us £40 compensation to take there choice of hotel.
