I would try sourcing them from a local supplier, they are invariably cheaper. If security is an issue then look at rockdoor, they are advertised as 'the drug dealers choice of door in Salford' as it takes the police so long to get through them. Had them in my last house and they are brilliant.

Best to go to a one man band kind of set up or a couple of guys who work together rather then a company. The bigger the company the more expensive it will be.

I'd second what others have said about using a local company rather than a national chain. IMO there are two aspects to these things (applies to kitchens and bathrooms too). One is the quality of the materials but just as importantly, it's how well they are fitted. The national chains tend to use sub-contract fitters who are often paid "piece work". So, the quicker they are "in and out", the more they earn. Smaller companies tend to have their own fitters who are paid a wage and take more pride in their workmanship. If there is a problem, they will be the ones who have to go back and fix it.
Personally, I wouldn't let Anglia anywhere near my house, regardless of price. This is not slander or lible, just my personal opinion of them.

I also recommend you go for a local supplier.
In my experience, in several houses, calling the likes of Everest/Weatherseal is a total waste of time, as their prices are in a different stratosphere from local independents.
That's even with their usual 50% offers, or whatever.
To give you an idea of the difference in prices, the last property I had done was 1 year ago.
A one-bed flat that needed one door and three windows.
Brown wood effect on the outside, white on the inside.
The dearest quote was over £5000.00 (yes, really, for one door and three windows)
We got it done for £2800.00 (which I still baulked at, really)

I'm on the other side of the fence. We got flooded in 2007 and had to have our external doors replaced. They were originally Anglian (although 10-15 years old). The chaps emplayed by the insurance conmpnay to replace them turned up with a complete load of rubbish, the quality was nowhere near the Anglian stuff. We got the insurance company to have them taken back out and Anglian to come and fit the same as we had. It's worth the money IMO.
An example is the front door. It was originally a wood door. The replacement was a uPVC door with a 2mm anti theft alluminium plate inside. Anglian did a wooden door replacement with a 2mm steel!! plate inside. Cheap door was 3 way locking system, Anglian was 5 point locking system.

Without seeing the installation, obviously makes it difficult, but I would aim a guide at about 3k to 3½k.
Depending on the type of profile used, the patio may or may not be reinforced, but it almost certainly will be, even if not fully, it will be reinforced where needed.

cheers | Just do an internet search using your local are or town, I'm looking to gey secondary glazing and have been amazed at the number of local businesses. You als get the added advantage of being able to say you are getting quotes from xxxxxxx or that xxxxxxxx company quoted whatever, that way you can ensure even more competitive pricing.

so from the consensus, should i take it that the issue with anglian/National glazers is not the quality of the supplied product BUT the possibility of rip off prices?
cheers

I must say, £4500-£5500 for 7 windows, 1 door + 1 patio door sounds pretty damned reasonable to me.
I bet we'd pay a stack more for the same in Aberdeen. |

Well my parents used Anglian about 15 years ago and they did a terrible job with the patio door which leaked every time there was a heavy downpour. It was only when a local firm replaced it about 5 years ago that we discovered the Anglian fitters had not installed a lintel which had caused the brickwork to shift slightly allowing the rainwater to seep in.
Whilst the quality of the fitting by the local firm was good the actual product itself was fairly poor so they went back to using Everest (who'd done the front of the house many years ago) to replace the front door and seem to be happy with the job, even tho it cost almost 50% more than local firm.
Definitely worth asking around for a reputable local firm if any of your neighbours have something similar to what you're looking for tho, even only for price comparison.
