1200 IT jobs to go at Fujitsu

Oh well, just been told 1200 of us are going by Christmas. 'Nuff sad really - there's a '3 month consultation period' before we find out who.

Looks like Field Support Engineers, not too sure yet but we all got an email today. Funny how they still managed to afford to buy out Siemens recently...

Re: 1200 IT jobs to go at Fujitsu

BBC says it would be from IT areas...not good Feel for the people being let go, hopefully the vast majority will be "voluntary" (well as voluntary as any of these are) rather than involuntary. Having survived a couple of these over the last 4 years, I really feel for those affected.

Currently working for a Big Blue company myself here in the UK, and we're living on borrowed time also. So many cost cuts in our company, pensions being the latest, constant offshoring, complete disrespect for the employee with respect to yearly review process, I do find it hard to promote the company any more.

Having lost my lucrative little number in 2002 when it was outsourced (to Fujitsu), I know exactly how you feel.

It was rumoured back last year in August, Siemens no longer wanted to continue with the joint venture. There was also news that suggested lenovo wanted a share of the company. Chances are fugitsu bought siemens stake cheap to sell off to another investor.

I think nowadays the advantages of working for big corporates are really diminished. Good pensions and long term career prospects aren't what they used to be. Big companies also have the ability to cut entire departments and offshore work. I believe you're better off working for a smaller business, where people and skills are valued more.

There is a Fujitsu/Siemens building on the business park where I work (sheffield), I wonder how they are taking it.

That's quite true, I remember working in my current company, which used to have 140 people, everyone knew each other and recognition for our work was always rewarded.

Now that we belong to a large Blue Chip company through acquisition and gone through 4 redundancy rounds, I just feels like a number in the company and not as an individual.

Feel for you people @ Fujitsu .
