CG Artist

Is anyone here a CG artist?

3D art using Poser/Bryce used to be a hobby of mine, I'd spend time drawing hair and creating human body textures to achieve more realistic images.

I had my stumbleupon email come this morning and one of the things I love to look at are sites like this

26 Ridiculously Awesome Computer Generated Portraits | Presidia Creative

I'm wondering what it takes to become as good as those shown, and at the age of 26 is it too late for a career change!

I work at a Post Production company. We have a large Visual FX department with 3D animators. Its still an industry where you can start making teas and coffees and work your way upto any position you wish to gun for. Experience in using the software packages will give you headstart though.

Re: CG Artist

I'm not sure where I would want to take it, if I got involved in it again.

I'm comfortable in my current career as a web programmer/designer.

I can imagine taking it up again as a hobby, then perhaps introduce the elements in web design and possibly sell/commission art if I was good enough.

There's so much in life I would like to do, but feel like there's too little time to perfect everything.

Re: CG Artist

Life gets in the way Some things are best left as a hobby anyway......work should be work. I always said that if you enjoy you career you are in the lucky minority. Personally I enjoy my job but there are many many many days where its a grind.

And it's never too late ( or too old!! ) , especially as an artist to develop your skills and widen your horizons

Cheers,

I've just been looking at the price of the new wacom graphics tablets. I'm holding fire at the moment, because if it becomes another fad, the girlfriend won't be happy!
