Re: Big drop in new swine flu cases

Are "cases of swine flu" based on real diagnoses or people phoning up the hotline, saying they have a headache and then prescribed tamifly?

Interesting point. A couple of weeks a go in Marseille, an old folks home was quarantined because of a feared outbreak of H1N1 (as we call it over the Channel). They actually did tests (!) and found out it was a 'regular' flu.
At about the same time I read that the WHO announced 100,000 cases confirmed globally.
Which is the number I thought the UK was working on weekly.

So, does anyone have any idea what the real UK rate was? Any numbers at all would be a start.

(The fact that the UK seems to have gone totally over-board in its response to the first wave doesn't mean I'm not concerned about the second wave, since it does seem to be behaving as predicted.)
