Set in the 1940's a science reel of a dog's severed head being kept alive on respirator. An old U.S.S.R experiement. Fake or Real? who knows. But it does look creepy.

Re: Real Life Zombie Dog

For those who think it's fake, care to explain the purpose of the fake?
Seems to be very elaborate, for no apparent reason.
Is it a pre-cursor to a TV series maybe, like the B+W 'Darma' transmissions from 'Lost'?

Going by what we have:

Quote:
Desc:40s science reel of a dog's severed head being kept alive on respirator
It has been going around the internet for some time now where people are saying it's real scientific footage. It hit the snopes forums a few years ago most people come to the conclusion it was propaganda for what reason they'd do it, who knows, maybe to show the medical and scientific power they posess? either way the dog clearly moves its head which would not be possible with severed neck muscles and nothing for support.

There are plenty of counter arguments of course...

Re: Real Life Zombie Dog

fascinating

would be nice if it was real, and at some point in time some scientists had to learn all this stuff, someone didnt wake up one day and say i am going to do a heart transplant, no doubt it was done on animals first

if it is fake some one went to a huge amount of effort and expense and for what?

Wouldn't it depend how far down the neck it was severed?
I believe one can suffer severing of the spinal chord quite high up and still move one's head, even if it's paralysis everywhere else?

I do concede though, the possibility of it being fake is there, seeing as you don't see the head from more conclusive angles.
Perfectly feasible it's just a table with a hole cut in it, like a magician's prop.

Not essentially, if you take a look at the muscular anatomy of a dog you'll see that there are muscles which extend from around the back of the ear down the length of the neck - it's worth pointing out most neck muscles connect up to the chest and shoulders, any cut on the neck of a dog would sever this muscle rendering it as good as useless, besides, muscular use isn't the only problem that comes into play when the dog is lifting its head up off the table, the fact is it needs a pivot and something which can take the weight of the dogs head. Such movement just seems very unlikely considering the remaining functional structure the dog has, of course you also have to take into consideration the potential brain damage suffered from such a procedure.

Probably right that it's just got its head through a hole like some kind of magic trick, it has been suggested that is the case and it was asleep/under anaesthetic and filming was of the dog coming through from that. Who knows... the film certainly isn't conclusive either way due to the angles as you say.
