Innocent Smoothies

Anyone else addicted to these? Problem is their £2 a go, even from places like Asda and Tesco. Anyone know where to find them cheaper?

Why not give Asda's own ones a go, they're quite nice.

Re: Innocent Smoothies

Find the same problem, often look for special deals on them where possible, love the "pomegranates, blueberries & acai" - "Superfruits" one. The only problem is as you say the cost, i'm sure people will say it's cheaper and better to make your own, but I can honestly say none of the smoothies from our smoothie maker at home rival the innocent ones, though smoothies from the Zumo Smoothie bars are lovely!

I drink them at work - but these days buy one of the 1L cartons at the beginning of the week.

Re: Innocent Smoothies

Do watch your diet though because although smoothies are made out to look and sound like a healthy choice, they're full of sugar (between 30 and 45% of your daily recommended amount in one glass).

Nice they are though But not addicted to them simply because of the cost.

Yes, but the fruit itself is full of sugar.
It might be called sucrose, or whatever, but it's still sugar by any other name.
Some of them are more sugary than cola.

They do not contain any added sugar (well most of them, some do) and are the same sugars you'd find in the fruit, but smoothies do have a higher concentration of the sugar compared to the fruit itself... but as with anything they are ideal in a diet with moderation, certainly a lot of people will drink these who normally wouldn't eat the fruit, and that has to be good.

Oh dear, this is as heartbraking as telling a child Santa isn't real!

I'm afraid stevie, as others have said, that fruit drinks contain more sugar than almost anything else you drink. Also while one glass may count as one of your five a day, any more glasses don't. Not that you shoudl stop drinking them, they are delicious, just make sure it is in moderation other wise you won't be able to do this in a few years .

Re: Innocent Smoothies

Although it has more sugar than a can of coke, I know which one I'd pick every day of the week I'll not even start listing the stuff coke has in which a smoothie doesn't. Don't let this kind of media scare driving put you off a good product, especially if like me you don't enjoy the actual fruit as much as a smoothie.

What next? Sugar free fruit?

I didn't say it was added sugar, but the sugar (or should I say carbohydrate) content is what I said above for one 250mL of drink.

The calorie intake is also quite high considering it's just 1 drink. 170cal per glass

I know you didn't but I was just making the point that the sugars are those that would be in the fruit anyways, apart from some places who actually feel the need to add sugar to add "flavour".
My point was it's not the amount of sugar it's just the concentration of it in the smoothie that is the problem. Obviously people are better off eating the fruit, but that does not appeal to everyone, it's certainly a good way to get people to get some fruit in them if they don't eat it normally.

Too many people criticise smoothies on the sugar concentration yet they don't seem to appreciate how many people get some fruit in them because of these, having a smoothie is a better choice than not having any fruit at all, high levels of sugar/carbs etc or not. Moderation is key as always.

It's not media scare, it's just a question of knowing what you eat/drink.
There's no reason to not have them at all, they're still nice but in moderation.

Trouble is people think they're healthy and will drink loads of it without knowing.

Other then the quite often supermarket promotions I doubt you'll find them cheaper, Innocent are based up the road from where I live & a couple of years ago I emailed them asking if I could buy direct but they were not interested.
