Whatever happend to....

The free gifts you used to get in Cornflakes etc.. like bike reflectors and dinosaurs and all kinds of other plastic toys. The excitment of opening a new box of cornflakes so you could stick your hand through (mashing up all the flakes as you went) the cereal to find that plastic wrapping.

I guess they stopped because of health and safety, to many idiots eating them

It's all about codes to text to a number or enter on a website now. Kellogg's have recently been doing codes in larger boxes of cereal which you get points for, and what do points make... prizes!

Home page of Kelloggs Rewards - member of coinks loyalty network

I've got enough for 2 free boxes of cereal at the moment, much better than a little plastic toy!

I bought two large Fruit and Fibre boxes, I needed three boxes to get a 4th box free. Unfortunately next time I went they changed the offer.

You still get the odd thing now and then, but I agree that they are not very common. The other disappointment is that on the rare occasion that there is something they package it between the box and the cereal bag - ruins the excitment of trying to find the sought-after plastic tat in amongst the rice krispies.

Having said that - just picked up an excellent deal at Tesco's yesterday. Sugar Puffs half price, each box has a voucher (you just need 2) and then you can send off for a cuddly Honey Monster for £4. I know they are getting £4 out of you, but he looks pretty good on the packet.

Cheers,

Nigel

Andrex did that a while back, I made sure I got the little stuffed Andrex puppy, was only a couple of quid + the tokens, I think it was worth it.

Re: Whatever happend to....

Hi,

Ahh the days, of freebies in cereal boxes, and the pester-power of an eager 6 year old, for mum and dad to buy X branded cereal because of the gold that lay inside. Those genuinely were the days! How I miss them so.

The probable reason that most of the companies don't run the "freebies" anymore, is probably down to money! If they can persuade kids to collect tokens and/or send off money instead, then why give something for nowt with the boxes of cereal?

Sadly, the days of trying to ease the free toy, sticker, or gift from the inside of the cereal pocket, from wherever it lay buried, and moving it to the top of the wrapper, so that you could then open up the wrapper, have breakfast, AND gain the toy, are long, long gone.
