Spotify on iPhone in 'days'

BBC NEWS | Technology | Spotify sets its sights on iPhone

Will iTunes tracks reduce in price to compete?

Will Apple offer a subscription service?

Will Apple focus more on video?

Will Apple ever sell anyting more than their 8GB model?

Re: Spotify on iPhone in 'days'

I can't imagine that Apple will approve this unless it is for subscription based customers only.

I think for a lot of people, me included, a subscription service is not that an attractive proposition. I don’t spend a huge amount on music and will generally buy anywhere between 1 and 5 tracks a month and when I do it’s usually from iTunes.

Isnt spotify streaming anyway? If it is then space hasnt got much to do with it since you're not downloading just streaming

Re: Spotify on iPhone in 'days'

I think I will go for the subscription option as it will mean ad-free from PC as well as on iPhone.

I think the subscription model for all such suppliers is the way forward combined with a cheaper say £0.25 per track to download and keep.

Re: Spotify on iPhone in 'days'

The ones who will start to complain about Spotify as it becomes more widely used is the ISP's, who hate anyone using their bandwidth (even though we pay them generously for it).

That's what I would suspect, in reality its taking away from Apples revenue stream of selling tracks but they may have to accept if because Spotify is going to be cross platform (android, PS3, maybe Pre??).

I think Spotify is only really a threat to Apple while its free once it goes to £10.00 a month i think many people will stop using it.

I would love to have Spotify on my iPhone, but there is no way in hell I would pay £9.99 a month for it. Charging so much each month to use it will see Spotify fail, IMO.

£10 a month is pretty reasonable for on-demand access to a huge library of music.

I pay a tenner a month to Napster and I'm very happy with the service, it's like having a music library of seven million songs.

Thing is, £10 a month isn't too bad, but loads and loads of other services have tried doing a similar thing.....charging a monthly fee to access unlimited tracks. And they have all been disasters and have failed badly.

I heard somewhere that premium subscriptions for spotify make up about 0.5% of the services usage. Which I think says alot. Will people be willing to go premium with the iPhone app thrown into the bargain? It'll be interesting, but I can't really see it happening.

Couldn't they have implemented the ad-based system that the desktop spotify uses into the iPhone version? That would have been the obvious thing to do in my opinion.

what i reckon there doing is putting lot more effot into there premuem service to try to get more customers going for preumiem be intreasting to see if it works but for £9.99 you cant complain its good value for money considering what you get

Re: Spotify on iPhone in 'days'

I just use Simplify Media - have it on my Mac at home where my iTunes library resides and it streams out over 3G to wherever I am in the world.

It's turned my 16GB iPhone into an unlimited music source.
