Symptoms ? NHS Direct checker

I've got something at the moment -no idea what - but stayed at home today - feels like a bad cold - but no idea really

no fever whatsoever - but have that tired - vision slightly lagged (like a few pints) feeling, sore throat (particulary in the morning), slightly achey joints, and a cough (dry not chesty)

NHS Direct symptom checker seems very broad brush (anyone looked at it)

do you have any 2 of the following ? then if you do you get a Tick and a Swine Flu info page ??? What does that mean ? Now don't get me wrong - its all good being safe - but you could have 2 of those and just have a normal cold or even a hangover ?

I've probably a cold - but I'm staying away from the kids just in case - not bothered about myself - had all sorts of nasty things in the past - I'm sure the flus not going to do me much harm. That said our youngest has had "something" for last 3 days anyway (fever, hacky cough etc)

anyone else tried the flu diagnostics page (and managed to work out what its saying) on the NHS direct web-page ?

it seems this Swine Flu has so many different effects on different people that its very very difficult to know whether you've got it, had it etc ?

Re: Symptoms ? NHS Direct checker

The online symptoms checker is useless for swine flu really as the symptoms are fairly broad - just like normal flu or a cold.

The only real way you can tell if you've got swine flu is a proper swab and lab test.

Re: Symptoms ? NHS Direct checker

The problem I have with things like this online checker is that, according to this, I had swine flu last week when I was feeling unwell.

However, as no-one will test me to confirm, how do I know I've had it?? If I have, I can get on with my life, not worry about infecting my family and even help other relatives if they end up getting it further down the road. If I haven't, I'm still at risk of getting it and passing it on, and next time I get similar symptoms, the whole thing starts again.

How can we hope to treat/contain any outbreak like this (or, God forbid, worse when it happens) if we're not sure who has and hasn't got it in the first place??

It's a three year old thread Tony

GF bumped it because he thought it was odd it appeared in a web search he did earlier today for a computing problem.
