Swine Flu During Pregnancy

Another worried person here. My wife is 6 months preganant and is also a primary school teacher putting her in the "High Risk" catergory. Thankfully school is out for the summer. However, recently both my neice (5) and nephew (10) have come down with illness during the course of the last week, symptoms - vomitting, tiredness, headache and fever. We were all very worried and as the local GP stated when they visited kitted up in masks there is no official test for swine being carried out so they will never know. This makes it particularly frustrating for us as THANKFULLY the symptoms are subsiding now but how long should we avoid contact with them? I have read various articles/ advice stating anything from 48 hours to 10 days. I am a healthy 28 year old but i'm very worried/wary of catching this flu and passing it onto my wife carrying our 1st child. Trying to stay positive & upbeat for my partner but secretly very worried.

Cheers
Blue

Re: Swine Flu During Pregnancy

Why even risk it? Just wait 14 days to ensure everything has fully settled down, ensure your wife washes her hands reguarly to reduce the chance of infection and where possible reduce visits to places where there are going to be lots of people (i.e. shopping centres).

I don't think you need to go OTT but generally being a bit cautious is the best bet, after all if something went wrong you would constantly be blaming yourself. The way I think about it is, if they can stay off alcohol for 9 months they can stay off the shops and very busy places for 3 months (maybe less)

Thanks fella - after a bit of googling i read that children can be infectious for 10 or more days after onset of symptoms. For that reason I will try and limit contact with anybody who has been symptomatic.

We have a midwife appointment tomorrow so will see what information they can give regarding all this.
