Which wire goes where?

a friend of mine is having a bit of a situation with his tv/sound sound/freeview, thought i'd post here before trying to figure it out...

He's got an LCD, Samsung dvd/surround sound system and a freeview box.

When he watches a dvd on the samsung, he gets full surround sound, but when he watches the freeview, he only gets the sound through the LCD.

He's got the LCD connected to the freeview using a scart, and another scart from the LCD going to the Samsung. Is he doing something wrong here?

Re: Which wire goes where?

So he has a cable connecting the tv to the freeview and a cable connecting the tv to the Surround Sound.

If this is the case then was he expecting Surround Sound when watching freeview when there isn't a cable connecting the freeview to the Surround Sound?

He needs to connect the freeview to the SS if he wants SS when watching Freeview.

Re: Which wire goes where?

The Scart connection between the TV and the Samsung is almost certainly one way ie in the direction of the TV. He will need to connect audio out from the freeview box (or possibly the TV) as a separate feed to the Samsung which hopefully has an auxillary in (probably RCA/phonos).

Re: Which wire goes where?

it might be that the output from the tv is set to an av output rather than set to monitor out (then sending what ever is on the screen to the surround sound) can yuo supply model numbers and i shall look up the manuals at work to check for you. or as said above hook up using phone leads but then you can get lip sync trouble. the joys of installing av stuff
