Restaurant closed for re-imaging

Was the sign stuck on the fencing surrounded the local McDonalds site that has recently been closed for rebuilding.

It amused me anyway

When I moved to Guildford, I was suprised to see chairs like these in McDonalds.

I've never seen another McDonalds with these chairs, not that I frequent them often.

It all looks new, and pretty funky. There are some long benches in there which sit 10+ people.

So I would assume these is part of their new image.

I couldn't find a guildford specific photo if that's what you mean, apart from

http://www.citikey.com/static/images...5/10159805.jpg

you can just see a green chair in the window.

Its funny about the green thing. The Burger King in Guildford Ladymead has also gone green and brown suedette booths.

I preferred it with the old 50's look when they had the booths, jukeboxes and pinball machine. Was like a Happy Days episode

Re: Restaurant closed for re-imaging

The re-imaging is to make them more coffee shop than burger bar, presumably to cash in on the Starbucks market. Hence the comfy chairs, wireless access points etc. They intend to re-image half their outlets by the end of the year.

I saw a dentist the other day which advertised among its services, on it sign outside: "Additions to missing teeth".

You can just about force it to mean what they intended, but man, it's hard

McDonalds are, apparently, also growing customers faster than their competitors... and are growing them faster in re-imaged outlets than traditional ones

Didn't they "re-image" Wimpey a few years back? Let's hope the same thing happens to McDonald's!

Moulded plastic brightly-coloured chairs aside, have they improved the coffee? Don't get me wrong, it does a job of waking you up, maybe just not in the expected fashion

Since I gone veggie I especially have no reason to go into Maccy D. Lady giving away vouchers outside the train station seems confused. It is useful as a reference landmark to meet up with people though

Haven't been to McD in ages. They make the best strawberry milkshakes, and chicken sandwich/meal thingy (I forget what it is called, been a couple of years).

Other than that, I stay well away

Re: Restaurant closed for re-imaging

What the?! "re-imaging"...? They're taking the pee aren't they?

"No, no, we're not some cheap and nasty place selling rancid burgers and volcanic apple pie-like substances, we're a trendy place to meet and have a social 'experience' with your friends". Yeah, right!

MaccyD has always been a hole that sells sugary, salty junk food made by spotty dropouts, it'll always be a hole that sells sugary, salty junk food made by spotty dropouts - replacing the plastic chairs and selling fatty, sugary 'salads' won't change that.

Re: Restaurant closed for re-imaging

Perhaps I'm in the minority; I don't mind McDonalds calling some building work/renovations "re-imaging".

But they're really taking the whotsit by calling it a "Restaurant"

Now that is really offensive!

Re: Restaurant closed for re-imaging

What I will say is that there are all sorts of rumours floating out there and if you Google, Maccy D are quite open in debunking them all. In fact I notice they have kudos from the "Vegetarian Society"

This thread reminded me of a recent conversation from an ex-Maccy D employee. His claim also debunked. According to the internet. So much conflict!

Old image. Our McDonalds had this 're-vamp' about 2 years ago. Bucket chairs, long tables with 'podium' footstools - and really 60's light fittings.

isn't that because the burgers have so little real meat in them that they're virtually vegetarian burgers?

or am i just being cynical here?

When they say 'growing'' do they mean the waistline of their younger customers?
I agree about the Restaurant nomenclature, only places that have knives and forks should be called by that name!

That's most salads, wherever you buy them from. Most places tend to cover them in lots of dressing for the taste. That's where all the calories lie.

Did you actually mean to say:

McDonalds customers are actually growing fatter than their competitors and are growing fatter faster in their re-imaged outlets than in their traditional ones.
