Resizing a gif?

Hi hope it's okay to post in this section!

Trying to find a program that will allow me to resize a gif, physically how tall it is, not the weight of the actually file as it were. Although that will help too...

Found a few online sites but they have limits of around 400k, the file I'm trying to convert is around 4Mb!

Downloading a program called IrfanView which I was told would help, but after a reading a tutorial it seems it can't really be done.

Any ideas?

Re: Resizing a gif?

There are a number of freeware tools that will do this for you but i'd avoid most of them, the likes of Photoshop will work best, a good free alternative is:
GIMP - The GNU Image Manipulation Program

Does the filetype have to stay as a GIF and is it animated?

Also, make sure you convert it to an RGB colourspace before you resize it. GIF use the index colour palette which can give you nasty results when resizing. Re-save it as a GIF afterwards.

Re: Resizing a gif?

Try Faststone freeware (FastStone Image Viewer, Screen Capture, Photo Resizer ...). I use this at work and it seems OK.
