I'm sick of sports events ruining my tv schedule
I was looking forward to watching Robin Hood on BBC HD tonight, except effing Wimbledon is on wall-to-wall. So I thought I'd watch it on SD instead - no, BBC1 NI has effing Wimbledon on as well, while BBC2 NI is showing The effing Championship (Gaelic Football - okay, its the most highly supported sport in NI but, come on, prime time Saturday tv?). Robin Hood has been moved to 8.55 on BBC2 NI and I can't even record it because effing VM has not updated its planner to show any changes to programme schedules.
Regardless of whether "Come On" Andy"!" Murray is playing or not, tennis is still a minority sport and only deserves coverage on one channel, at best. And anyway, I thought the English hated Murray because of his (right on the money) comments about England in the last World Cup.
I wish the BBC would buck up their ideas. There are people in the UK that want something other than sport.
And don't even get me started on BBC NI's coverage of " The Twelfth".

Re: I'm sick of sports events ruining my tv schedule
I sorry I disagree, for me coverage of a live event is more important than a pre-recorded show. Tennis may be a minority sport but Wimbledon is one of those events that only comes round once in the sporting calendar. And murray is the only Brit left in either singles draw and stands a decent chance of winning. I'm glad the beeb rescheduled.

Totally agree with you mate. Live sport is as exciting as it gets, your pre-recorded show can be shown at any time.
How much flack do you think tv stations would get if they were to show things after the live events have occoured? My wife likes all the tripe reality stuff, but when there is an exciting sporting event on she gets glued to the tv and is as excited as anyone.

Re: I'm sick of sports events ruining my tv schedule
I do have some sympathy for the OP - I'm not a big fan of sport myself (although I do watch Wimbledon and F1) and re-scheduling programmes can be annoying. Normally the disruption is minimal though - I think the OP was just particularly unlucky as most could watch the programme on BBC2. It is disappointing that the show wasn't re-scheduled on BBC HD as well though.
I suspect, as we move into an all-digital age, programming distruption will become a thing from the past as the BBC will just be able to juggle between any of their channels rather than just the two main ones.

I can understand it can be irritating not being able to watch what you want when you want. But we live in era that is incredibly flexible - BBC I player highlights this. Wimbledon is only on for two weeks out of the whole year, I am sure can bear the pain

And because its Wimbledon we should be force fed it? The Horse Of The Year Show and Crufts are also events that come round once a year but we don't have them spread across several channels at once.

Ha ha. That reminds me of the Simpsons episode where Krusty Burger was giving away free burgers if American athletes won their Olympic events. Only it was 1984 and the USSR withdrew from the Olympics, so AMerican athletes won almost every event.

It would be interesting to see what the viewing figures Wimbledon get compared to Robin Hood. I seem to recall last year that around 10.5 million were tuning in to watch Andy Murray against Richard Gasquet. Doesn't this series of Robin Hood get around 5 million viewers?
Anyway, I disagree with your sentiments. Wimbledon is only two weeks of the year and is the showcase of British tennis if not not biggest event in the entire tennis calender. It fully deserves its place in the schedule ahead of a televisual crap-o-rama like Robin Hood.

Not ANY live event, there are a few from the less popular sports that we get and they only come around once a year. The Masters at Augusta and The Snooker at the Crucible are ones that stick in my mind. For two weeks in June, tennis takes over the nation, people get the urge to pick up a racket and everone becomes a tennis fan.
I'm not sure I understand the simpsons reference

Well I suppose it could be on Sky so we all have to pay extra for the priviledge of watching it.
Personally I don't get the big deal, it's 2 weeks a year, surely people can live with a minor disruption of their TV viewing for 2 weeks? Doesn't anyone have gardening to do?!
