Re: Cheap Suit !!

Primark, a linen blend suit cost me about £40, or M&S who have some for around £59, though they all seam to be in stone/light brown.

If it's a one off, look at hiring.

Re: Cheap Suit !!

Slaters in Bolton. If it's like the one in Glasgow, they'll measure you up and adjust an off the peg suit to your size. Not a proper 'made to measure', but good quality and prices.

Asda
Tesco
Matalan

All do suits for around £40. Washable too, so you can wear them again if the needs arises. Oh, there are not the best quality so prepare for static all day.... When i first started working, i bought one, it did the job and i learnt to touch all metal objects with the back of my hand!

Re: Cheap Suit !!

Hi,

I'd certainly agree with most - hire or buy a cheap suit/jacket, and just wear a half-decent pair of plain black trousers, and black shoes.

To be honest, unless you are likely to wear a suit regularly, it isn't worth spending a huge amount of money on them.

You may also want to see if anyone locally to you has secondhand (or something similar) available: dry-cleaners may have stock that's not been collected, and some larger charity shops may also have some stuff in stock. Check local wedding dress places too, who may have contacts who can help you out.

Re: Cheap Suit !!

I had to do black tie recently and was torn between renting and buying......but in the end bought a £50 suit from M&S having taken out a new credit card through Quidco - which came with £20 cash back - which came through - hence the suit for £30.....on an interest free credit card, which wasn't used for anything else until it bit the dust

Just a though if you can trust yourslef with a credit card! Cost me the same (if not less) than a rental and i got to keep it - I am sure I'll get to wear it at least once more before I die, so will get my money's worth!

Definitely better to hire an expensive suit, than buy a cheap one.
I'm no Gaultier, but I can spot a cheap suit a mile off.

Very few people ever wear waistcoats, and most suits in shops are only 2-piece. And especially not in the summer.

Re: Cheap Suit !!

I bought a rather nice but very cheap suit in Matalan around 4 years ago for a wedding and I still occasionally wear it cos it's quality!
Especially as it cost me around £50!

Re: Cheap Suit !!

I'm thinking about using these for my wedding suit. Probably The Prince Edward. I think its £89 for hire of everthing apart from the shoes, i.e. suit, waiscoat, tie, cufflinks, hankerchief.
