Astrometry finds a planet

Personally I think this is really quite awesome.

Astrometry is a branch of astronomy dealing with the measurements and movements of planets and stars, as they move around do a bit of a tango with each other as they move around. The other methods used for detection are radial velocity or transits.

But it was published yesterday that a team from the Jet Propulsion Laboratory labs at NASA have used a number of measurements over the past 12 years to find a planet about the size of Jupiter from the pull it has on of its star (VB 10), the movements are a mere 1/6th of an arcsecond each year.
Really impressive
