And I need a new game to play on XBL.

GOW 2 up until now is really the only game I play on XBL, and I've had enough of the lag fest that GOW 2 online. I think I'll trade it in and get something similar, does anybody on here have any recommendations?

I've heard Left 4 Dead is quite good online.

I look forward to some good suggestions!

To the OP: what sort of game do you actually want? Still a shooter? I know you said you wanted something similar, but Gears of War is actually a third person shooter, not a first person shooter, and there aren't too many of those games around.

Do you want gore? Realism? Aliens? Human enemies? Sci-fi? Horror? Co-op? Versus? Story? All of the above? None of the above?

As for FPS games:

Left 4 Dead is great on co-op and versus, but it can get a little repetitive (only four levels, though I am led to believe more are on the way). It has no story to speak of.

CoD4 and CoD:WaW are both good online and very addictive. Fast-paced, frantic, and a great exp/perk system. CoD4 campaign is better IMO.

Halo 3 is pure brilliance. Frustrating at times, as it's pretty fearsome online these days, but it provides perfectly crafted and utterly pure FPS gameplay. Perhaps the most traditional FPS around (that's worth playing, anyway). And a cracking campaign, with four-player co-op.

Shadowrun is good, but some players find it a bit complicated (not me, I might add) and it's quite niche. Also, there is no continuing support/DLC, because its developer (FASA) now an expired company. Deep and rewarding once you play it a bit, though. Again, no campaign to speak of.

Those would probably be my recommendations, though there may well be others out there. Other than the demo, I've not played Battlefield: Bad Company, but I'm sure someone else will recommend it to you.

Some food for thought there, anyway!

There will always be more "Shooters" coming but although I'm looking forward to Modern Warfare 2 (not COD 6!

) that will not be around for another 6 months ish....

All a matter of taste... one game loved by some people is hated by others... I never got into Halo 3 and I really wanted too.... I really like COD 4 but never bought COD WAW after I played the beta because I hated the dogs....

i don't blame u, apart from horde it's got really annoying.

they only had to leave the game mechanics from gears 1 and add on new maps, game modes like wingman, guardian, etc but no they had to mess about and totally ruin the fast -paced run n' gun style we all loved in gears 1.

hostage taking - it's rubbish, as soon as u are taken hostage u are classed as being dead so why can't u be still alive if someone throws a smoke grenade in and releases u from the hostage moment?

finally, the lag problem, seems everyone hates this problem but im not sure what the answer is.

the way to save the game? u can't because epic tried some new ideas which didn't work but they won't admit to the failure, they will do what they want because they know even with faults we would buy the game, if they brought gears 3 out people will say "im not buying it unless it's good" promptly causing them to see people on their friends list playing it and then going out and buying a copy.

so unless epic remove the stun effect of smoke grenades, remove the planting of grenades, go back to the speed of gears 1 gameplay, and the gears 1 system of choosing mode/map u want to play, remove hostage moments, and sort out the lag, then im afraid we will all have to put up with the faults.

@one last thing, in gears 1 people were constantly being frag - tagged, how many times have u seen someone frag - tag in gears 2? i haven't seen any so far in all the time i have played it, why? because they get more enjoyment out of throwing smoke grenades in and chainsawing u rather then take the chance of trying to tag u and getting shot, cheap kill or not they will do it the

@jasong - You do realise you can roll through tagged frags without being killed don't you? Also not everyone preferred the playstyle of the original Gears, Gears 2 is a thousand times better balanced imo.

Meatbags, great addition that gives players in a 2 on 1 scenario a good chance of survival, down 1 guy then use him to shield so you can either take the next one down or make him retreat.

Ink grenades are used badly by most players, instead of pointlessly throwing them where someone is standing. Possible uses are combine with a smoke wall tag, throw behind someone to stop them running from you, throw them on a weapon or location to prevent the enemy taking it.

Smoke grenades I cannot justify too much as it's always a nuisance when you die through them cheaply but with care this shouldn't happen too often.

Finally the lag in the game I can handle most of the time but there are a number of times when you just cannot get a decent host, this is the only huge failure that bothers me. The only options I see moving forward are to switch to dedicated servers or have a proper country filter setup.

I realize I'm not going to change your opinion of the game and I'm fine with that but not everyone prefers the original Gears.

I occassionaly tag walls as if they can do it so can i - and rolling through doesnt always solve stuff but if people know you put one there and cant see it they wont go that way - well until their idiot team mate runs in oblivious
