i just dont see the attraction of GoW online. i have both games, both limited edition and yet again i do not play them both online. i had a breif spell on GoW2 online when i got it, but the matchmaking is terrible and it takes ages. also the games are slow paced. the story line is amazing though, and was dissapointed with both versions for their online gameplay.

I think it's incredible that Epic have the brass neck to produce what is fundamentally a broken game, and then start chucking out Map Pack after Map Pack (at a cost of course), instead of concentrating on fixing the game in the first place.

Re: Snowblind Map pack is up

only 83MB ??

edit : what V1P3R said. Bungie spend about 6 months on a map pack - tweaking it and polishing it. Epic just throw some snow on Fuel Depot

By the way, let me stress, I'm not here flaming and starting some Gears/Halo debate (that we're all no doubt bored rigid with)......I just think its shocking that Epic are basically milking their hardcore fan base of every penny they can get. Well I flogged Gears2 ages ago, and will NOT be buying it back, nor any Map Packs they release.

Re: Snowblind Map pack is up

Gears online isn't for everyone. Gears 1 multiplayer was and is an acquired taste which I happen to like! ...I for instance don't get the Halo attraction and I bought that on release day caught up with all the hipe. Not a bad game by any means and I see why people like it but it just doesn't do it for me...
...
Snowblind map pack is 4 maps...

Under Hill
Grindhouse
Courtyard
Fuel Depot (from Gears 1 and one of my personal favorites)

I've had a quick run through them with bots to try them out (time is limited at the mo... I am supposed to be working after all) and they all seem to play very well.

Surprisingly I found Under Hill to be my favourite and the preview footage of that map didn't grab me...

As I say if you don't like Gears 2 don't buy them... but I know I'll get more hours from these than most Arcade games bought for this price or more.

So anyone who's played these maps could they post their thoughts on them... perhaps we should have a poll on which is our favourite new map?

I don't actually like them. They are more-or-less the same as any other maps they've made but covered in snow.

Re: Snowblind Map pack is up

140 points I think...

Adds nine new achievements worth 250 points. Progress toward them starts after Title Update 3 is applied. Six of the new achievements require the Snowblind Map Pack, a set of four new maps to be released soon. The nine new achievements:

o "Battle-Hardened Gear" (50 points): Reach level 50 and play a match on each of the four Snowblind Map Pack maps (Public only).
o "Veteran Gear" (75 points): Reach level 100 and win a match on each of the four Snowblind Map Pack maps (Public only).
o "Never Eat Red Snow" (20 points): Complete waves 1 through 10 on all Snowblind Map Pack maps in Horde (any difficulty).
o "Icy Dead People" (25 points): Complete waves 1 through 50 on any Snowblind Map Pack map in Horde (any difficulty).
o "Frigid Body Dynamics" (5 points): Play a multiplayer match on each of the four Snowblind Map Pack maps (any mode).
o "The Weather Outside Is Lethal" (15 points): Win a multiplayer match on each of the four Snowblind Map Pack maps (any mode).

And it's 800 points... £6.80 if bought direct from MS.

It claims 250 gamerpoints but some of those are just for reaching certain ranks and don't mention Snow Bound

Back to Halo ladies.........

As you have stated you no longer own it so

1. How can you make a judgement on tu3

2. How can you judge the maps?

3. How can you bare to tear yourself away from Halo 3 to even post in this forum

Anyone who starts with I'm not here to flame, no offence, or any other stupid comment should just stay out, sorry but you 2 are really annoying

OK, lets do them in order then:

1. I don't believe I was passing any judgement on TU3 - as you rightly point out, I no longer own Gears2 (despite queuing up for it at midnight on launch night), so haven't had the 'pleasure' of seeing the 'improvements' that Epic have made.

2. Again, I don't believe I was passing any opinion on the maps. The point I was making was I think it's wrong of Epic to produce what, in my opinion, is a broken game, with more faults than good points, unlike the first one, and then expect their fan base to keep spending more and more money on maps. I'm sure the majority of people would prefer they spend their time and energy fixing things like lag/slow lobbies/stupid smoke grenades etc.

3. Good point. In fact, I'm not even sure I can muster the energy or concentration for RL (real life) in general, never mind posting on some forums. If only I could sit around playing video games all day.

And I genuinely wasn't trying to flame/annoy anyone - I've done hours and hours online with my GoW buddies, bantering about how good Halo is etc etc........and to be honest, even I'm bored with the whole argument.

It's funny, but I've avoided the Gears threads for a while, after it became apparent that there were certain people who didn't like the franchise being criticised in any way, shape or form. And to be branded "annoying" has made my temporary spell in these threads exactly that - temporary. So, I'll leave you all to it. I hope that the new maps are wonderful, and that you all have a thoroughly good time playing them.

Consider me told, and "staying out"

Re: Snowblind Map pack is up

I can't be bothered replying but I think it's quite rude to openly call someone annoying when you don't know them.

I will say that I have played the game since TU3 and was considering buying the Snowbound maps so my presence is justified.

Re: Snowblind Map pack is up

2 things, 1 everyone has the right to an opinion otherwise whats the point in a forum?
2 nobody has to buy these maps we either wish to or not.

as for the game well im staunch gow but i agree with lee that gow2 is a mess, whether u don't like it being said the plain fact is that they should have just branched out from the first game and made it bigger, but no cliffy top-hat had to have 'new ideas' and now people hate them, the game speed is too slow, theres too much lag, we now have match-making (why can't we just pick the map/game we want to play like in gow1) yet again ranked achievements instead of normal multiplayer in so forcing us to play against fools who spoil the games with cheating or lag, smoke grenade problems havent been fixed they are still used as cheap kills, updated maps like fuel depot which just had snow put in as chuck said which i agree, those maps like the flashback ones should have been free anyway, the game is too slow moving instead of the fast-paced game in gow1, they are trying to make it into a rainbow six style game which it is not.

just imagine gow1 with added to it - new maps, horde mode, new modes guardian, submission, wingman, king of the hill.
take out the smoke grenade stun effect.

what u are left with is the game everyone wished for but sadly didn't get.

Re: Snowblind Map pack is up

I had a few games of GoW1 last night and was staggered at how fast and frantic it was. GoW2 is pedestrian by comparison.

I am starting to enjoy GoW2 (won't be buying the maps) but GoW1 is still a much better game.

Here's hoping that Epic fall into a Call of Duty-like cycle of Good Gow, Crap GoW, Good GoW, Crap GoW.

Well done on finishing your assignments Kop, you'll be needing a new box of crayons if you've been working solid for two days.

Snowblind maps are great and I will say buy them if you are into gears 2. Snowblind are much much better then combustable map pack.

Re: Snowblind Map pack is up

I havent bought Combustible bought have jumped in to Snowblind.

What can I say, the maps are excellent.

Fuel Depot isnt the same as Gears 1, you need to play it with different tactics now. No more mega snipe battles as the snipe rotates with torque. But overall, the map is easy on the eyes and still keeps some gow1 magic.

Grindyard is small but intense. There are significant choke points on the map, really good for close quarters.

Courtyard is very intimidating. Its HUGE. Map design is great, kinda reminds me of a spin off of escalation from gow1.

Underhill is my favourite map. Its strange because it seemed to be the least exciting based on previews. The vistas on the map are excellent, get alot of sunshine strangely, the garage door is a laugh. There's a scorcher behind the door and it had me on the floor laughing. If you go inside, grab the scorcher and slowly open the garage door. Watch the noobs rush inside the door only for you to flame grill them all down, kind of like a sick horror movie as you scream insanely down the map "burn! burn!!!!"...

Overall, great value for money. Recommended purchase.

I'll have to try that one.

Had a bit of a play (oooerrr missus) on the maps last night and love em all, highly recommended from yours truly. Can see myself playing them solely for a while.
