TU3 - Chronic lag

I know GOW2 has had serious issues with lag, but I must say other than the odd match it wasn't really a problem for me.

After TU3 I have played a 8 or so games and all bar one have seen my character sliding all over the place!

I will try re-setting my home hub to see if that helps, but I was wondering if anyone else has found this?

Not really mate, since TU3 i cant recall any major issues with lag, had the odd spawn with no weapons but nothing major

I've had one really bad game with LAG after TU3... and what really annoyed me was I couldn't quit even though it was unplayable due to the new points system.

That said I've only had one game with LAG (although it was pretty bad and worse than I've seen before with this game... I've written about it before on these forums so I wont go into details) in what must be getting on for 40ish matches.

Overall in my experience it's improved... still no Gears 1 (I am a bit of a fan of the original... and willing to accept change

) but now IMO Gears 2 is a good multiplayer game.

Hmm, perhaps the issues are down to my internet connection then. Would seem odd though, as I can play COD WaW at Killzone fine online with my PS3 (sorry wrong forum!

Have you tried re-booting your server recently?

Some times I need to just "turn it off and on again"

Worth a try at least...

Since the update I have noticed a significant improvement,
today however has been awful 4/5 games were completely unplayable.

I re-bought gears 2 so I could try out TU3 and see if it would get me back into it again. But my experience has certainly been mixed. Ive had about 4/25 games that were ok, the rest have been lag fests. I have 10mb cable broadband which is fine on everything else incuding Gears 1 so it's not that.

Ive had one game where my mate spawned with no gun and another match where me and Benyameano were both deducted 1500 for 'incomplete match' when we played it out till the end

Also I have had problems a few times where I have tried to shoot someone revving a chainsaw at me and they have just gone straight through me instead, however when they have done it to me it stopped me from revving and killed me

Oh and I got downed from a 1 hit melee once as well

I would say that it has improved from first release but its still a long way off from being finished. I seem to have a certain level of hunger for the game back, but not enough to make it a constant play...yet

I find I get more games that are good in terms of latency but the bad games I do get are completely unplayable now. Instead of most games being around 1 second lag with up to 2-3 on occasion, I now get sub 1 second lag for quite a few games then a small percentage I get upwards of 3 seconds easily. It doesn't even help playing in a party of 5 all based in the UK as we frequently get paired up with Mexico and the US.

I reset my BT home hub last night and the first game was fine. The 3 after that were shithouse though, I even got accused of lag switching!

I know what lag is, but not switching! Wouldn't do it intentionally anyway. I played COD Waw on PS3 afterwards which was fine, so it can't be my connection.

The issue where spawning with no weapon cant you just press sideways n the D-pad to pick a weapon? Thats what i've done before.

Its not your connection mate, its gears 2 and whatever god damn awful way they have coded it to work online.

Ive said it before and I will say it again - a supposed 'flagship title' like Gears of War 2 should have dedicated servers - period.

Frontlines fuel of war managed it, Left 4 dead managed it.
Both run flawlessly online, the first having up to 50 players over xbox live wth no lag issues.

That said I rarely get any bad Lag issues these days... I am sometimes a rubbish player but I'm happy to accept that and not blame lag...

Perhaps I've just doomed my connection forever.

no, while it looks like there is no gun u actually have the weapons, the lancer etc fires but doesn't hit anything nor does it reload, grenades won't leave your hand when thrown, u just have to wait until u die.

i end up trying to win games with 'mime'

Well i've had to take a day off from gears as the lag seems to be getting worse as I rarely get a decent connection at any time of the day. I mean come on I even got lag playing private horde. Oh well i will plod on it just seems that the players with the high exp are the ones with the best connection so at this rate i'll never hit 50 nevermind 100

It's getting to the point where I can't be arsed with GOW2 online anymore, it really is unplayable.

I agree with other posters, for such a major game, how the hell was the game passed for release with the online play in this state? Or did they not test it properly?
