Gears Of War 1 vs Gears Of War 2

I played my 1st online game of Gears of War today (Wing Man) & thought it was superb! (Very late to the party but traditionally I am a PlayStation gamer - forgive me for my sins)

Anyway - I'm reading a lot of negativity towards the sequel with people claiming the original is a much better online game.

Can someone explain what Epic have done to "ruin" the game?

I own both & love the game mechanic & have decided I'm going to dedicate some online time to this so would be keen to understand which is better to get in to & why!

Cheers!

Re: Gears Of War 1 vs Gears Of War 2

1st one for me they ruined the second one
Huge gears fan played it constantly with around 20 others from here for about18 months solid every night

Gears 1 is quicker faster smoother it's just complete it does have it's problems but 2.5 million users can't be that wrong beats cod4 by a mile for me

A lot depends on which game you played first. It would seem that most, although not all, who played the original Gears when it was released much prefer that version. It is more fluid, the character speed is perfect and I don't know...it just 'feels' right. I played Gears to death and couldn't wait for Gears 2 to be released. When it was I was properly gutted. IMO Epic ruined a near perfect online game.

Of course those that played Gears 2 first all seem to prefer it over the original. One of the reasons is the steep learning curve online. They can't two-piece in Gears 1 because as soon as they try they lose their head or get gibbed.

Gears > Gears 2 for me all day long.

If you want to have fun play COD MW2 and if you want to pull your hair out, shout out loud, throw your controller at the TV or break your xbox etc etc then I guess Gears 2 is the one to go for.

If MW2 wasn't ruined by glitching I would agree but MW2 needs sorting before I'll be spending anymore time on it...

I prefer the MP of Gears 2 to that of Gears 1. It feels a lot easier and natural, though I do agree that Host Advantage is annoying.

To be honest I think both games are great online, (although it's been a while since I played either). I'd say GoW 2 was better and can't really see why everyone disagrees. I guess everyone else just gets too hyped up about it then gets disappointed when they find out it's just a game.

i think that gears 2 is better in every respect but 1.
unfortunately it's a biggie and the lag that most people encountered was enough to ruin the game for them - and as a knockon effect everyone who played with them, most of the people i played gears 1 with ditched the second game, and as i hated playing with randoms i stopped playing too.
Sort the netcode out epic and you're on to a winner with the third game

the reson Gears 2 gets burnt on a lot is because the mutliplayer was effectively broken on release, and even a few patches down the line they never really got it working as well and as smoothly as the original.
(horde is the exception to this, as it is epic)

as far as the single player campaign goes (although ive only played the original at a friends briefly) the second one is much more refined and better imo.

gears 1 is best imo. better balanced maps, less lag, more fun. No smoke stun grenades for a start or ridiculous heavy weapons.

GOW2 is better than GOW1

The only downfall is that I felt that the campagin on GOW1 was much better and more exciting thst GOW2.

What a fantastic argument you put forward to describe why Gears 2 is better than Gears

Completely agree with the above, Gears1 was hugely playable and had me glued night after night for months, infact years(only game that's ever had that magic for me), Gears2 just seemed to lose its soul, lag aside it just never clicked for me in the way Gears1 did, despite my countless efforts to like it there were too many things I disliked.

The campaign in both games is superb but you're probably right there, the second one I think is better, apart from the disappointing ending anyway.

What you said is what all Gear nuts & normal gamers have said, I couldnt believe how cr*p the "Boss" (If you could even call it that) was at the end, Epic just had you go through the motions, press a button & aim three times, WOW that was harder than Raam, don't think so!, Cliffy B you sir are a Tool!
