Of course those that played Gears 2 first all seem to prefer it over the original. One of the reasons is the steep learning curve online. They can't two-piece in Gears 1 because as soon as they try they lose their head or get gibbed.

Completely agree with the above, Gears1 was hugely playable and had me glued night after night for months, infact years(only game that's ever had that magic for me), Gears2 just seemed to lose its soul, lag aside it just never clicked for me in the way Gears1 did, despite my countless efforts to like it there were too many things I disliked.

The campaign in both games is superb but you're probably right there, the second one I think is better, apart from the disappointing ending anyway.
