The enemy most missing from Gears of War 2....

Just been getting back into GOW2 after putting it aside following the dis-heartening state of lag warfare in multi-player. Me and a mate were playing through the campaign in co-op and going through the enemy roster of the good, bad and ugly creations from Epic. Tickers came out as the most annoying baddie, bloodmounts win on the hard as nails front and Scorge ranks a distant 2nd to Raam in the stakes of an evil leader. But when it came to the enemy most missed from the first game there was one unanimous answer(between all 2 of us)...... The berserker

Now when I played Gears 1 it was the first game I played on a shiny new XBox having been a PS devotee through PSOne and PS2. Gears was a feast visually and acoustically, it had guns, guts and gore but never did it make me nervous or scared, not until the first heart pumping encounter with the beast you can't kill with a normal gun. The berserker is a work of gaming baddie genius, it offers frustration, anxiety and challenge in equal measure and for me, at least, was the standout showdown in Gears 1 on 3 separate occasions.... by the end even Marcus was sick of the sight of them as he exclaims on the train on the last level. The noise of the Berserker alone sends a shiver still now...

The questions are why did Epic leave them out, does anyone else agree they were great, are they missed from GOW2 or is it just me?

Gotta agree mate. It scared the **** out of me when I first encountered it. It's that feeling you get when you're running away from it, cant see it but know when it's coming after you cause you hear that awful scream!

Re: The enemy most missing from Gears of War 2....

I loved the berserker parts of Gears1, but did find by the time we'd been through it on each difficulty level it got far too easy. Even on insane, its a dash to the door, casual roll sideways, dash away from the door, wait for berserker, roll sideways, run past it through door. The hardest part was sometimes making sure it didn't get left behind.

So while I thought it was a great part of the game I can see why they didn't re-use it.

Raam was far better than Scorge.

I prefer the stay in the light Krill to the ice storms in Gears 2.

Re: The enemy most missing from Gears of War 2....

Like the dude above, I missed the Kryll most of all. I was waiting for them to appear the entire time I was playing Gears 2. It makes the series less conistent as they were a recurring baddie in Gears 1 but are completely absent in Gears 2

Re: The enemy most missing from Gears of War 2....

I totally agree with the OP although i think i know why! I think they left it out on purpose because of Gears of War 3!

It must be some bloody clever marketing or something much more twisted going on here, Gears of War 2 (for me) fails on so many levels they must have done this sort of thing on purpose!! TU5 says it all

Why.....because i bet when Gears of 3 comes out (not that i would buy it on day one) it will have beserkers and Gears 1 style MP and be back to some of them best dam MP online-age i have ever played!

Or am i just mental....

Re: The enemy most missing from Gears of War 2....

I can imagne it now, wave 49 of Horde, amongst the Boomers, Butchers, Grinders and Bloodmounts there is a feint shrill scream that seems scarily familiar and off in the distance a Berserker can be seen charging across the landscape as you hurridly question your friends as to who the hell has got the hammer of dawn?!!

Must admit the sires are the worse enemy in Gears 2 (aside from Scorge who is just pants) they look like the long haired old guys you get at metal concerts who have had 1 cider too many

They weren't in Gears 2 because they were hibernating. They are the only females of the Locust Horde, they hibernate in the winter and mate in the summer. Learn something new everyday.
