Fix the shotgun?

The main thing that struck me when I played gears of war 2 was that the shotgun was slowed down. This was annoying since I personally think that gears 1 was built around it's unbeatable shotgun duels. Does anyone else wish that the shotgun had the rate of fire that it used to?

Shotgun duels spoilt Gears 1 IMO... I still prefer it to Gears 2 but the shotgun power removes the point of having the other guns as they are so unbalanced. IMO again of course.

One is a beast wih the shotty on both games

instead of fixing game mechanics they need to fix the game i.e the lag i have no intention of playing gears 2 again
i prefer gears 1

Well when gears 2 first came about the campaign was brilliant but the multiplayer was messy. I was playing it the other day and I see they brought out a new patch which has fixed every problem I had apart from the shotgun. Overall i'd have to say that gears 2 is better than gears 1 though concerning almost every factor.

may i ask where in the world you are and what time do you normally play gears 2
Matchmaking is worse in gears 2 why cant i pick the game mode i want to play like in the first,why cant i cycle maps like in the first game,why cant i pick a connection that suits my needs and not one where i lag all over the place.

I could go on all night really

I live in scotland and I don't play it at set times really, however mainly in the evenings 7pm+ (thats during weekdays). I'll agree with you on the waiting to join games, however, isn't that similar to the ranked matches of gears of war 1? As in gears two every normal match counts towards your rank IIRC? (I'm not totally sure as I play horde more than I play execution, annex etc) So your still gaining some form of reward for you wait, dependent on your performance ofcourse

Suppose, i reached rank 25 in a few days but for me gears 1 kicks its arse

can i ask how you found gears 1 how did you fair at it

I thought gears 1 was one of the best games ever made (esp. for 2006. I used a sniper rifle mainly, and occasionally the shotgun. I would consistently come 1st or 2nd place on my team, however I stopped playing it about a year ago. How did you fair at it?

sold gears 2, thought the multiplayer apart from horde was utterly woeful. still play gears 1 when a bunch of us lot are on and its always a great laugh. the shottie is powerful, but its also very closerange, and the lancer at distance will take you out quicker than a shottie, and you have a few select power weapons for long range. unlike gears 2 which has too many weapons for such small maps and the f'ing smoke grenade which couple with the vacuum saw make the game a total waste of time in terms of tactics or skill.

The shotty in GoW2 is both over-powerd and under-powered at the same time.

The number of times I've put 3/4 shots in an enemy only to be one shotted cannot be counted by even the most complex super computer.

While the number of times I've been taken down with a single shotgun cartridge from beyond Hammerburst range is infinite.

Weapon balance in Gears 2 is outstanding, it's the constant tinkering and lag thats the problem. When the game isn't laggy the shotgun works as great as ever, otherwise it's get out the lancer and saw away.

The big problem with the game I have is it gives you very little choice other than to pick the lancer as if you go hammerburst and the game is a lag fest you have no defense and get destroyed. At least the lag saw gives you a chance to pickup a few kills, hence why there is more "n00bs" in the game who use it at first glance.

the hammerburst generally rules all weapons (especially when you can fire it fast and accurately)

the shotgun in GoW2 is stronger than GoW1 (2 more pellets per shot) and so to counter that they slowed the fire rate down - i find though the shotty is pot luck, sometimes you will be behind someone and shoot and nothing happens othertimes you will get randomly one shotted from a couple of metres away

I wouldn't consider the game to be an 'epic fail'. I guess i'm more of shagaboopon's opinion that for a lot of people it is frequently laggy hence multiplayer can be poor. The fact about the shotgun having two more shots is interesting, but is it necessary?

No other game has ever got my heart racing like Gears 1 did. When you were the last one left on your team and you knew the other 3 were watching you and then the shotty battle began. Best online video game I've ever played.

i agree, also i have had moments in games on gow1 where i was 1 vs 4 and took out the entire team, u cannot do this on gow2 now as they just sling in smoke grenades to stun u.

this is what i hate about the game,i played a match on annex tonight where i lost every single shotty match,,took out by 1 shot and i loaded 3-4 into them,its very frustrating,,also i was shooting a guy with the lancer,he started at me with the same weapon after i put say a 1/4 bullets into him,,and bam im down.

It is particularly annoying in the hammerburst/lancer battles. You can have Active reload start firing a few seconds earlier and not miss a single round and still lose.

In what world does the person who puts a larger quantity of more powerful rounds lose?
