Apparantly CliffB is arranging some tests to remove the smoke stun or reduce the stun on smoke to see what happens.


I can't work out if this is good or bad.

Good:
  • People no longer get cheap kills on you when you are stunned
  • You wont drop your meatshield

Bad:
  • You can't get cheap kills
  • It will make submission and Annex/KotH harder
  • You can't get someone to drop a meatshield meaning you'll spend an age shooting through it

Smoke grenades should be just like Gears 1... you can use it for cover but little else.

They should also remove planting grenades as they are a far to cheap kill... worse than a smoke chainsaw combo. At least you still have to be there to get that and there i nothing worse than running round a corner and exploding.

All IMO...

They could keep it as is now if you have a meat or boomshield and just remove the stun in every other situation.

I'd certainly play more.

The problem is that many Gears 1 fans who detested the whole smoke issue have long since left and the new breed of Gears players don't seem to mind them so I'd assume they'd go mad if the stun was removed. I'm struggling to understand why it's taken 7 months to start thinking about removing it

I knew after 7 minutes that it was the worst idea ever

Perhaps they should only stun if planted, but not if thrown. That way you could plant a smoke in the Hill on Annex and stun the enemy, but not just throw it into a crowd. But planted smokes and grenades are bloody annoying, and I wouldn't mind if grenades were removed entirely, the splash damage on frags is atleast twice as large as it should be, and I have been stunned by grenades that are so far away I can't even see them.

Maybe if we ask really nice they will remove the Boomshot and Torque Bow from MP .

It should of been like teh first one where you cringe away from a grenade i have posted on that thread and said if they dont get rid of it all togthe rhows about picking up a stun grenade and spawn with a smoke im tryign to get them to lower the ping further

Any chance of lowering the ping further please - Epic Games Forums

anyone have nay inside tips on how they can lower it

No, there should be no cringe from a smoke. The cringe in Gears 1 from a nade was just as frustrating as getting knocked down in Gears 2 from a smoke. You were unable to defend yourself. Why can't a smoke grenade just be a smoke grenade for ****s sake?? No knockdown, no cringe, just...........s m o k e


Epic lowered the ping to 175 a few weeks back and it did improve the lag but it made matchmaking worse for the Aussies and others in that region. They put it back to 200 and the lag was worse again

I had an Aussie match earlier. It was almost impossible to get a kill as the Aussie was on the other team and they kept jumping all over the place.


We need seperate servers for Europe, NA and Australasia. Or Epic need to ask Ubisoft how to make a non-laggy international matchmaking system because R6V1/2 were 80% lag free.



I joined the Gears forum just to complain about the lag

I would prefer a flash bang to a none concussive smoke. It's still debilitating for a second or two but you can at least avoid a cheap kill by diving on occasions. It would also have the bonus effect that if you have someone marching along with their boomshield or meatbag then you could lay the flash on them then get behind them and lace their back with fire.

If Gears 2 became Gears 1.5 then I'd probably stop playing to be honest. Nade tagging is fine if you're careful, too many people run around with wreckless abandon and should be penalised for it. The biggest problem with nade tagging is the sill placement of nades which allow people to tag up constantly (Security, River, Pavillion, Blood Drive for example). In Pavillion I still don't understand how they thought it would be a good idea to put naes at spawn, it was stupid. Nades are as good sa the best power weapons and you should have to fight over them not be handed them at the start of a round as appears the case in most Gears maps.

i still really dont get how the grenade wall tagging works

fair enough the frags have spikes on for "sticking" to the walls but how do they physically know to go off at an enemy and not at a friendly

there was one petition thread on there where they wanted the LEDs of a grenade to be the right colour of the team and for the tac-com to be easily showing friendly/enemy grenade instead of waiting around aiming and shooting etc

sounds good about the smokes though

EDIT: Maybe its some government thing - sublimly saying smoke knocks you down

The main issue with the tagging is that firstly they get set off and are deadly from 10ft away .

Secondly the grenades often disappear but still explode so you can't see them.

Thirdly there are many places where the grenades can't be seen such as being placed behind a pillar, if you can see it you are too close to get away.

maybe all your team have a transmitter in your armour that tells the nade not to go off when you're in the vicinity?
kinda like those catflaps where the cat wears a special collar so only they can get through

So if you have a meatshield then the 'nade shouldn't go off.

what should happen is that you should still get stunned, but a consistant short stun. maybe a stun just slightly longer than a melee hit

you should never flop! that should just be removed from the game FULL STOP!

sometimes it really is a joke, especially when im in an epic shootout and a smoke goes off and next thing i know is im flopping for a good 10 seconds downthe stairs while 4 people with chainsaws are after my corpse!

The really annoying one is where you get thrown 5/6ft across the map to the feet of an enemy and flounder around like a fish out of water.

A little bit of me dies inside everytime I fall to the floor after being smoked......waiting for the inevitable chainsaw or a point blank shotgun aimed at my head for when I eventually rise to my feet.

I just tend to use the smokes as a detection device, plant it to a wall nearby to tell me that an enemies on its way, so the beep and smoke will suit me down to the ground.

This is hi-larious. People don't know the smoke doesn't stun this weekend and therefore I am just rolling up to them and killing them.


Correction. You do flinch slightly.



Correction. A guy on my team got smoked and he fell to the floor and rolled around. Epic have F'd this up like the Double EXP weekend.

they should remove the smoke stun effect, remove the planting of grenades, and alter the game lobby system like in gears 1 so we can play the games we want to instead of voting.

too many people are planting grenades near weapons for cheap kills, there's no point playing submission as smoke grenade removes grip on meatflag which won't matter as a boomshot will do the same thing if the smoke grenade stun effect is removed, and lastly they should add friendly fire to the games, too many players fire the mortor or boomshot into crowds and only kill enemy players and not their own which is a joke.

i also hate the hostage taking, they should only allow someone to be hostage for 5 seconds before dropping them.

its pointless

the stun is now like the GoW1 stun where you stand up shielding yourself

you are a bigger targer for headshots/bow shots shotguns everything

there still is a stun and a worse one

It's worse IMO, I long for the fish flopping. Plus having the chainsaw up negates the stunning meaning chainsaw are immune.


Friendly Fire should be added ASAP I am tired of being killed by explosives while standing next to several enemies.

You obviously haven't played the Old School System. I was killed more while stunned in 2hours than in the previous 2 days.

there was one petition thread on there where they wanted the LEDs of a grenade to be the right colour of the team and for the tac-com to be easily showing friendly/enemy grenade instead of waiting around aiming and shooting etc

sounds good about the smokes though

Im the one that started the pink glowing smoke grenades thread you're talking about

I photoshopped the pic for the nade myself. Yes, the member 'cogtagnoob' is me. I hate that tac-com idea personally.

Im not even gonna try the new tempo smoke adjustment. Smokes concussion is my favorite thing about gears 2, and no, I dont rely on it like a n00b. It just adds a new and needed dimension to the fluidity of the game.
