The mooted free-to-play browser-based MMO Star Trek: Infinite Space has taken a fatal photon torpedo and been cancelled.
According to
GamesIndustry International, the German publisher Gameforge was unsuccessful in its quest to find publishing and marketing partners to back the project and bring it to launch.
The company said it was with a “heavy heart” that they were finally stepping away from Infinite Space but that it was a hazard of the industry that occasionally “a good concept for a game cannot be implemented as originally planned”.
The title was announced back in 2010, and should have been ramping up for release some time soon, but Gameforge’s struggles with backing and their need to lay off staff late last year meant that this was always a possibility.
