Resident Evil ports on the Cube
As I try and get the last out of my Cube whilst at the same time considering what my next console will be, I'm looking at some of the Resi ports and wondering if they're worth parting with my hard earned.
I've got Resi 4, the remake and Resi 0 but I understand the remaining titles - 2, 3 and Veronica - are straight ports of the existing PS and Dreamcast versions. Quite a drop in quality in terms of graphics and such.
Do any of these games make up for less-than-stellar graphics with the gameplay and story? I own Resi 2 for the N64 so I doubt I'd be getting that so what about the other two?

Re: Resident Evil ports on the Cube
RE3 on the GC is worse than DC as it lacks the 60Hz option. If you've never played it then by all means get it as I think the third game is pretty nifty. Code Veronica is a port of the PS2 version which has some extra scenes in it that weren't present in the DC version.
If you can find them cheap enough (which isn't easy), then by all means get them

Re: Resident Evil ports on the Cube
"Pretty nifty" and "extra scenes" sounds tempting, although the notion that it's not easy to get hold of cheap copies of them is off-putting; I wouldn't be paying more than a ten spot for any old Cube game nowadays, no matter how good.

Re: Resident Evil ports on the Cube
I think most shops that still stock them list them at £20 a piece, and they cost nearly that pre-owned in the likes of Gamestation etc. Don't know if they were a limited print run or anything, or if people just like the idea of being able to play through the main RE saga so far all on the one console.

Re: Resident Evil ports on the Cube
Resident evil 1 remake is the best of all the resi's in my opinion. Resi 0 isnt a remake of any

Re: Resident Evil ports on the Cube
If you've played RE2, RE3 and RE: CV on other consoles I don't see any good reason to shell out £15 each (typical asking used price) of a rather pointless trio of GC ports
IMHO RE had reached its zenith with RE2. RE3 was simply a more (annoyingly) combat orientated take on RE2. RE: CV is a good stand alone game but did nothing new, corrected none of the series' faults and was, basically, just bigger. I actually became bored with it before the end - seen it all before.

Re: Resident Evil ports on the Cube
I finally received my copies of Resident Evil(remake) & Eternal Darkness yesterday that I bought from these forums months ago, they'd been sitting at my mums place & she kept forgetting to post them to me
Played some of the Resident Evil remake last night, wow, the graphics are certainly a huge step up from the original psone version! Alot harder than I remember aswell, I managed to die twice so had to restart
Very much worth revisiting that one if you only played the playstation version, the mansion seems quite different aswell with the room layout etc.
Might try Eternal Darkness later.

Re: Resident Evil ports on the Cube
Glad you like the remake, Tetlee. I recently went back to it to play as the woman (sorry, I forget her name now) but once you've played Resi 4 the control system can be just a little bit annoying. Not enough to ruin the game, though - the visuals and the story are what really make that game.
fallenangel, I haven't played RE 3 or CV on any console, hence the original question. If I see them for a fiver, though, I'll get them.
And if you think the series reached its zenith with RE 2 and consequently you never bothered with RE 4 then you really are living in denial! Go check it out; those faults you mention (and by that I presume you mean the control system and the loading times when you open doors, go up and down stairs etc) are absent from this game.

Re: Resident Evil ports on the Cube
I would only really recommend getting 4, 1 and zero. All must have Cube titles imo.
However if you have never played the other 3 before and can get them cheap then you may as well get those also.

Re: Resident Evil ports on the Cube
Just a shame they never remade Dino Crisis like they did Resident Evil, always loved that game and if they could have made it look as good as Resi it would have been a must have
As for the Resi games, I have all the one's released on the GC, RE4 was probaley the hardest to get because even second hand places wanted £20/25 but managed to get it on this very forum for a little less than £13
I went back to the Resi remake recently and for the life of me I couldnt figure out where to go, I found a key but whenever I picked it up this knight with a spinning death wheel would start to come towards me, guess I have lost my touch.

Yeah that would have been good. Though I wish that they had given Resident Evil 2 & 3 the same treatment. A real shame.

remember now,you have to play eternal darkness in the dark, with the lights off,and the volume up quite high..
man that game gave me goosebumps...some pretty weird bits on it,specially when it switches the console off n stuff.

Re: Resident Evil ports on the Cube
Tetlee, get Eternal Darkness fired up. I have really enjoyed it on the my Wii.
Stunning game with some really good twists and without giving anything away I am sure that on more than one occasion you will be sitting then staring at the screen thinking *** just happened

I didn't consider mentioning RE4 because it isn't really in the same traditional of those 5 - RE/2/3/CV/Zero (or 6 if you count GC RE Remake) earlier games which is what we were discussing. RE4 is a great game but it is a separate entity in my book. It has a different form of gameplay. Of those traditional style earlier games, RE2 was clearly the high point of the series, there was nothing new added after that.
BTW Eternal Darkness: SR was the first game I played on my new recently bought GC and I've got to say it was one of the most enjoyable and refreshing games I've played in a long time.
