Gamecube and HDTV

Hi, firstly just to say i love my GC and 2moro (xmas) im finally getting Zelda TP! really looking forward to playing this. Also im not getting a Wii just yet, might get a 360 after zelda, but i still have many cube games to play including eternal darkness.

Now my question is this: After x mas im looking to upgrade my 24" CRT to a 32" LCD HDTV possibly a samsung. Now im not like some people who are ultra critical of picture quality as my current PQ is horrible as i think the tube in my TV has a fault and the colors are dark and murky. I play games through the composite (red white yellow i think thats the one) on my dads 32" panasonic CRT and i think they look awesome. I play in 60hz mode as its a 100hz TV but not sure if it makes much difference. Anyway if i get a LCD, will the picture look bad? I am prepared to upgrade to an RGB cable if this will make the quality that much better, but im not going down the route of component and NTSC games. So basically will getting an LCD ruin my cube gaming, or will it only make a difference to the ultra fussy among us?

If it wont be any good, i suppose i will look into getting a Wii so that i can play that through component.

Well I think a composite connection to an LCD HDTV from anything is going to look poo for want of a better word. You'll def want to try and track down an official RGB scart lead for the best pic quality, other than the component and ntsc route.

I'm looking for one too, plenty of un-official ones on ebay, not sure whether to give one a go.

Re: Gamecube and HDTV

Just to say i bought a 32" samsung R7BDX today. WOW. Even through composite my cube looks great!! Absolutley cannot understand why people say it looks crap. I will still be looking for a scart lead, and if the improvement is as great as people say, will be in for some trully stunning cube gaming!

Re: Gamecube and HDTV

I have an official RGB SCART lead for Gamecube. Hasn't been used although box opened.

I bought it to try on my US GC instead of trying to make my own NTSC RGB lead. The UK official lead didn't work on it, (US GC never had RGB output, but I had to try), as expected, and has been sitting in a drawer ever since.

PM me if interested.

Ditto

So its not just me then, via composite the Gamecube looks great on my Samsung LCD, I also have a Component cable and the colours are actually equal, the faults with composite are very minor, some slight movement if you look up close to the screen.

Maybe the Sammys are just bad at non-RGB scart then?

How big is it? My 40in i spot on for HD 360 use, not so clever with the cube. We'll see what the RGB scart does when it arrives.

Yes generally large screen LCD's/Plasma's seem very unforgiving for the last gen consoles i hooked my PS2 up to mine to play a game I have had sat on the self gathering dust for ages and it was poor

32" R7 Samsung, Metroid Prime looks lush, colours are as nice as the 360.
