Question Gamecube sound connection

What options are there for sound connections on the gamecube?
2xRCA for standard analog audio only, no digital, or surround?

That is correct. 2x RCA phono for Stereo L/R sound. Most games support Dolby Surround though so when the L/R audio channels are connected to a suitable amp/processor with the correct number of speakers, then this is what you will get. Star Wars: Rogue Leader also supports the new Dolby Pro Logic II for 5 speaker surround. You could describe this as a matrixed version of Dolby Digital 5.1 but the results are surprisingly good. Again, you need to have the L/R audio connected to an amp that supports Dolby Pro Logic II. It's supposed to actually work better for games than Dolby Digital as the discreet sound effects channels are generated in real-time with very little compression.
