GC - 60hz games on 100hz tv

this may be naieve, but would it be right in assuming that if 60hz is sharper/clearer than 50hz, then if you're playing a game on a 100hz tv you might be better off leaving it in normal mode and using the tvs default frequency (so long as you can put up with any 100hz smearing shenanigans)? Just asking cos I've acquired a 100hz tv, and in the brief spell I've had to play games on it I've automatically gone for the 60hz mode (where available), but am now wondering if it might be better not to. Will give it a whirl, but just curious as to others views/experiences?

60hz mode has a lower res than 50hz, games just run at their original speed with 60hz and around 20% slower in 50hz
