Re: faulty BGA from woolies

Was it the SP or the original GBA? Only the SP has a backlight, the original one needs an external light source like the original GB did.. .. .. you can buy add on kits that have a flexible light that fits into the charging socket.

Re: faulty BGA from woolies

Changed title to GBA .

I think if Woolies is completely gone by now, maybe Nintendo themselves could help? If it's a later version that should have the backlight, Codestorm UK (Nintendo) may be able to repair it for you.

Re: faulty GBA from woolies

The dark screen issue is not a fault as such, as they were all like that. I think they released updated versions with a brighter screen, but by that time the backlit version (GBA SP) was on the way.
If you can find some sort of light attachment (likethis one) then you should still be able to use it.

Re: faulty GBA from woolies

Unfortunately the original GBA system was as dark as the original GB system as NST stated a light device that plugs directly into the system would help a lot, I still play my GBC, so I know what you mean, I always play under a direct light source so I can see just fine ^_^.

The GBA SP with the backlight and the GB Micro are HUGE improvements, you play them in the dark.

Craig.

Re: faulty GBA from woolies

If you want the best version of the GBA series to play Gameboy Color and original Gameboy games on then there is no substitute for a late GBA SP from the US market.

Only in the US did they release a newer version of the GBA when the DS Lite came out. They gave the new Brighter GBA the same screen technology as the DS Lite (and the GBA Micro). It's so good that you don't even need the backlight on to play most of the time and it's like being floodlit when it is on.

I picked one up second hand from Electronic Boutique (the US Game) on my last US trip for $40 (about 22 quid at the time). You have to ask as they are often not out on display plus you need to take an old GBA SP to compare to ensure you get the newer, brighter version.

To illustrate just how good it is, I'm going to try to attach two pictures showing a normal GBA SP and the brighter GBA SP next to each other with both Backlights on and then both backlights off. The brighter GBA SP is many times better with the backlight off than the old GBA SP is with it on!! And the pictures don't show the full difference either!

Check US sellers on ebay as an alternative to visiting the USA to get your hands on one - a useful side-effect is you also end up with a US power supply which is very useful when travelling to the US.

Hope someone finds this useful.

Enjoy!
