Skype versus calling abroad

I am going to NY tomorrow and will be calling home a few times over the next week, home is the UK. I have skype on my iphone and wondered if it worth paying to add some credit to use that to make calls or just use a phonebox in NY? Looking at the Skype website it does not appear to save a whole lot of money but I wondered what people here thought?

As Long as you're on a free wifi connection (most hotels have them, but some block ports for VOIP clients as they want you to use their uber expensive phone liines ), use Skype.

If you're not on a free wifi, it may be worth finding one that you can pay for that is reasonably price (Starbucks etc) and use that.

What you don't want to do is use the local 3G connection in New York as that will end up costing you a fortune.

Free phone calls over an damn expensive connection=

HTH.

I agree with Azzin. I guess is really one of the best Voip service out there on the internet. It is very much efficient than using a landline phone or a mobile phone when you call abroad. One thing I like the most about Skype is that the voice transmission is so clear that sometimes, it is way much better than a landline or a mobile phone. :D
