Vonage questions

Does anybody know if all calls made via a Vonage voip adaptor are routed via the USA ? So if I ring a friend across the road is the call actually going transatlantic before his phone rings.

Also does Vonage work ok over Sky broadband at present I am getting 15mb downstream and 752KB upstream

If your Vonage box as a UK number attached to it then no. If you have a Vonage box from the US and use it overseas then yes.

Re: Vonage questions

It is a UK Vonage unit so my calls should not be routed via the US then ? I just wondered all the voices on 1471 are American and also sometimes when you ring my number you get a US dialling tone like it forgets its in the UK

Re: Vonage questions

Never had the US tones but all the voice messages are american including your voice mail if you use it which can confuse your relatives.

Re: Vonage questions

Don't assume calls on any network of any type remain within the borders of the UK with the possible exception of BT land lines to BT landline calls. Where internet phone useage is concerned if your provider is French owned (Orange) then it is quite possible everything you do might be routed via there. The internet can be truly global with people selling network capacity cheaply. A provider could pipe his traffic into a dark network for a fee and doesn't care where it goes as long as it emerges at the other end and network performance is good. If you are concerned in any way about security then you have to go fixed line.

Re: Vonage questions

If you have a US postal address and/or a US credit card. But otherwise you have to go with the UK offers.

Re: Vonage questions

Hi Guys

You've practically answered all the questions already.
Just to let you know, Vonage is now on Twitter and Facebook for any query you may have.

And yes, if you are in the UK and have a US billing address you can indeed sign up to any of the US packages.

For any questions, do get in touch!

Ciao
Enzo at VonageUK
