Re: Recommend me a Skype phone that has wi-fi

I was looking for the exact same thing. Ideally want to have the phone connected to skype all the time without having the PC on. The wifi option was the obvious choice but I am still double minded about it.

Are they worth it? Anyone use a wifi skype phone? What are your experiences?

I saw a netgear one and a belkin one.. What are your thoughts?

Re: Recommend me a Skype phone that has wi-fi

I have 2 skype phone which I am using at the minute and both are SMC wifi phone. Basically it just uses your existing router for the internet and load all your skype contact. I am not gona say its great but its all right. There are several version of this particular phone made by different company:SMC, Belkin and Edgecore.

Hope this help.

Re: Recommend me a Skype phone that has wi-fi

I've got a philips 841. It's brilliant, especially living overseas, to be able to call people on skype without having to boot up the PC or even better when people in the uk have skype mobiles - all the calls are free and whenever you want to talk. One of my best buys and saved me loads of money on phone calls.

Re: Recommend me a Skype phone that has wi-fi

Agree with Gazzer - Philips 841 is the phone to get. It uses DECT and the base station plus right into the router, so really simple to use.

Have tried both the 3 Skype phones and the Belkin ones on Wi-Fi - neither was great, with lots of drop-outs in the calls. I think it is an endemic problem with WiFi, which was primarily designed as a data transfer protocol and so not too concerned about losing the odd packet as long as the data got there eventually - so better suited to high volumes of data than constant and error free low volumes of data.
