Combination Skype and Landline Phones

Hi All,

First post in this section......

I currently have a 3 handset DECT phone set (a BT model) and also use a Linksys CIT200 for Skype (I travel a bit with work).

Anyway, the BT DECT system has broken and I am in the market for a replacement.

It occurred to me that I should be able to combine both the landline and Skype functionality in a single phone. I have looked around at what is available but most of the combination systems require you to connect the system directly to a PC or a Router. I have a PC on 24/7 upstairs which is where my cable broadband comes into the house. This PC is used primarily for media streaming but also is running Skype. The CIT200 has a USB dongle that connects to the PC but allows the CIT200 handset to operate like any other DECT phone anywhere around the house.

So, I cannot find an all in one solution that will allow me to connect a base unit directly into my wall phone socket downstairs (I only have one of these in the house - hence 3 handset DECT system) and also connect to Skype running on a PC upstairs 'wirelessly'.

Does anyone out there know of such a system?

Thanks

Andrew

Siemens Gigaset C475 IP DECT VoIP Telephone? Don't know personally but it seems to fit the bill having both DECT and VoIP in its title.

Re: Combination Skype and Landline Phones

Thanks for the suggestion - I've had a look at the Seimens phones and although it appears to do everything I was looking for the £200+ price tag put me off a bit!

I've ordered a 3 handset Panasonic DECT for under £80 and I'll stick with the CIT200 for Skype.......

Re: Combination Skype and Landline Phones

I'm also looking for a combination VoIP and Landline set-up. There doesn't seem to be anything available which meets all the following requirements ...

- Skype-compatible
- Must still work when PC is off
- Includes answering machine for landline
- Must support the addition of 1 or 2 additional handsets

The Netgear SPH200D comes pretty close, but doesn't seem to include an answering machine. It also seems to get occasional reports of unreliability.

Any other suggestions, or do I just need to wait a few months for the market to develop? Thanks.
