talk-talk 8mbit bb, upload speed?

Hi all, regarding the new carphone-warehouse broadband offer
(TalkTalk) talk-3 package, 8-mbit download speed is great for voip, but as usual there's no info on the upload speed?
obviously this also needs to be fast if it's going to be any use for voip

anyone got any data on this?

It'll be a standard upload associated with normal ADSL services. I am not sure what you are expecting regarding speed but why do you think you need a lot of bandwidth?

As part of the package, Vonage have a bandwidth saver that allows you to configure how much bandwidth to use. It is either 30Kbps, 50Kbps or 90Kbps. We have NTL 1meg, with (I think) 128Kbps upstream with Vonage set to the highest setting, i.e 90Kbps and don't have any problems.

I think the original question is interesting if anyone finds out.

Someone, (I think it was Bulldog) was also advertising an 8Mb service, and were quoting upload possibilities >256kb.

Some people may want more than 1 VOIP phone line, so if they can get better than 128 or 256 upload, they have more possibilities.

Just seen at PCPro an article about PlusNet offering an 8Mb service with the following details so this may become the normal spec:

You can have an upload speed to match you download speed if you are willing to pay for it! Upload speed is not that critical for normal domestic use as long as you are not doing anything upload intensive like sharing files.

I expect that the upload speed is the same as Bulldog just under 512Mbits, which is about the same as BT ADSLMAx.

I hope you have had a good look at the T&C's for this free broadband, your are entering into an 18month contract and Talk Talk have not got the best service around, so if it all goes belly up, you will have problems. the other thing is that you are put onto their network via LLU and if you want togo to another ISP, it means going back to the BT network, which will cost you many and also will take time.

I don't think people are thinking this offer though, in fact I wonder how many people really knows what they are signing up for. Myself I will stay opn the BT network, at least I can choose my ISP and I can choose what phone service to use.
I may pay a little bit more, but I think I have or will have a better deal than Talk Talk woiuld give me.

BOOOOOOOO!!!!!! I have just moved to Gibraltar and its £40 for 256 down and 128 up, if I wanted 512 down 256 up its £100. Also have to pay £125 setup.
256 up is not enough if your playing online and someone wants to use VoIP,if you use video as well it gets very choppy.

When I rang Talk Talk they said you still have a BT line, you just pay them the line rental and they then pay BT. Your still on the BT network according to Talk Talk.

but you are tied in to 18 months of contract....ouch

say after 5 months, for whatever reason you need to end your contract with TalkTalk for the services you have......you'll get stung for 13 months of payments with nothing to show for it......eek

or what if after 6 months a new tech is worked out that means even old phone wires can handle 50Mb services.......and you are stuck on talktalks 8mb....(i assume the talktalk free broadband is up to 8mb?)......you think they'll offer you a free upgrade to that new speed when you are tied in to them regardless?...lol

oh and i dont know, i'm just asking the question, is there traffic shaping/crap fair use policy on talktalk?

always worth checking out everything before you jump in on something being offered for free by a company...lol

I've been with my current ISP for a LOT longer than 18 months. The speeds having changed (increased) but I'm still on the same package as I signed up for.

I do have to say that they have changed their T&C and the bandwidth allowance is falling through the floor.

I'll be having a look at TalkTalk when they are ready in my area.

Presumably someone, somewhere, has to justify how they can make money out of giving services away.

Like any 'too good to be true' scheme, there will be a payback. Perhaps they bail out after twelve months and sell to another provider, who changes the terms and conditions - who knows.

All I know is that chasing the latest deal is not the way to run a business.

I have recently been on to telewest to negotiate my particular package and have been highly impressed. I have come away with a deal that keeps me very sweet indeed (compared to what I was paying for my lesser services).

I have had a particular person ring me at appointed times and be extremely professional. I've been with Telewest for a while now and there service just gets better and better.

i've been with my current provider (BT) for around 7 or 8 years, fair enuff i could switch and save £20 or £30 with Talktalk (assuming my parents didnt mind...lol)....but i know i get almost literally no problems, a fast and very reliable service.........if i switched and within a few months things got a bit ropey, i wouldnt want to be tied in to the whole deal for 18 months, phone and net............12 month contract isnt quite so bad, most likely if something did go wrong (you or the provider) it'd be so many months in......so not quite such a sting if there is only 6 months to stump up for, but if you had 12 months out of the 18 left?.....eek

i signed up for an 18 month extension on my phone contract to get an MDA Compact free around a year ago, BUT i also pay the insurance, so if say i suddenly lost my hearing and had no need for a mobile 4 months in, then the insurance would cover the 14 months of contract left............do CPW offer this with their TalkTalk landline based service?

ive just got talktalk broadband in today and had no prob at all, just down loaded a 10mb file in 30sec, but i only had dial up before and that would have taken about 45mins lol, not bothered about 18month contract because i was with bt for 10 years

Hello,
My inlaws have talktalk ADSL service right now and the are getting around 400k upstream speed. Dose anyone know if they can subsribe to a higher speed? and if so what differeent speeds might be available. If they can not what other if any options might they have to get faster upstream speeds. I live in the states and have cable witch I hear is some what unheard of over there. We have a sling box at there house and they like to view it while they visit but I would like them to get faster speed to get a better picture. any advice would be greatly aprsiated.

I am with TalkTalk, and have checked my speed over a number of weeks having been on the phone to them and got them to adjust my s/n ratio because speeds were poor.

I am now getting Download (measured today ) 9053 kbps, upload 264 kbps.

Upload remains fairly week, but not much different from many other broadband suppliers.
