Simply Electronics: Warning!!!

I want to warn other consumers about Simply Electronics and their poor customer service.

First of all let me get this off my mind... whatever you do.... I recommend you NEVER EVER BUY ANYTHING FROM SIMPLY ELECTRONICS. For the sake of completeness... this is their site http://simplyelectronics.net. It's my experience that any fault of the goods even if reported quickly will result in a brick wall approach to assistance.

I received a rovio from them as a christmas gift which turned out to be faulty after a day or two of use. The problem was a simple charger issue and the fix would have been a replacement charger. Turned out that simplyelectronics did not want to replace the charger and refused abide by the distance selling act. The request for a refund was refused even though it was reported immediately after receipt (when the shops re-opened after christmas). They also insisted that the goods were sent back at my own cost. It took around 10 emails to finally get an answer to the same question, that is that they refused to abide by the distance selling regulations and refused to pay for the return delivery costs even if it turned out the goods were faulty as reported. No matter how much I referred to the legality of what they were doing I was told the same thing, they would not refund or allow me a replacement and they would not repay any out of pocket costs. The only option was a repair which would take around 4-6 weeks. Since the fault was a power adapter that would amount to a replacement anway but that argument fell of deaf ears.

Does anyone else have a similar story to share with this so called 'dealer'?

Simply Complicated Electronics?

I actually think the original 80 page thread was serving a valuable purpose as it was a great way to track peoples progress in getting goods or refunds from a company with one of the worst reputations on the net.

Seeing peoples complaints and Vanessas responses usually meant that something was being done for the vulnerable consumer for a change. I only joined this forum to add my complaint to the growing list and "join the queue" as it were.

I bought (thought I bought) a Lumix FZ 38 on the 26th of May from them through Google checkout. Obviously when it didn't come in time for our weekend away I cancelled the order and await a refund. Bought one from another online supplier (Same again? Hope not). The holiday got cancelled the wife went mad and i am still in the doghouse. I didn't want to go with no camera and as we were staying with friends at least we didn't lose any money.

I will update with progress. I have sent an email to Vanessa but not sure this still has any effect.

Item in stock - No sign of delivery after 3 weeks

Hello,

This is my first post and I wish I'd found this forum before ordering from Simply Electronics. I bought a Canon EOS 550D Kit on the 23rd May in plenty of time for the arrival of my first child. The web site stated it was in stock.

After several e-mails I was told that it was out of stock and they had a back order. I phoned today after checking the website (which showed it in stock today). The girl on the phone could not grasp the concept that in stock meant they should have the item and should be able to deliver it. The line she kept saying was that there was a big backlog they were trying to fullfil and I would just have to wait. She did however offer to escalate it to the logistics dept.

I've now just received an e-mail to say the logistics dept is too busy to accelerate my order and hence feel the need to share my experience on this forum.

Since ordering, the price has gone up significantly. Also if ordered in May, Canon were offering a £50 cashback so I'm reluctant to cancel (I'm going to hold out until the end of June when the cashback offer expires)

I get the impression that they are prioritising new customers (who are paying more) and hoping that I cancel my order.

With the baby due any day, its looking like I'll have to rely on my compact camera for photos.

I would not recommend anyone buy from this company (i certainly wont be again).

Well I got my refund after contacting Vanessa (real person?) and I will not be using the company again. It was a worrying time. They have strange operating methods and in the end I used a UK company that posted the items immediately.

Caution When Buying!!!

I am in the process of cancelling my order. I contacted their sales department and they confirmed that they had local stock ready for dispatch, guess what they did not.

Well I will get to the point, when purchasing items through this company you agree to their terms and conditions which state. "YOU WILL BE CONSIDERED THE SOLE "IMPORTER" OF THE PRODUCT TO YOUR COUNTRY FOR ALL PURPOSES, INCLUDING CUSTOMS REGULATIONS AND COPYRIGHT AND TRADEMARK LAWS. ", be very cautious here as you could be hit with import taxes. And if the item is stuck at customs you will be liable for postage charges back to Hong Kong.

Another major problem when buying from this company is you could be purchasing the item without warranty. Example if you purchase any Canon product, they only cover warranty from within the country the item was purchase. In Simply Electronics example the items are purchased from either China or Japan and do not full within UK Canon warranty. Canon UK - Terms & Conditions

Just warning you, I would not recommend purchasing from this company. Spend the little bit extra and buy locally, even if it is for your one years manufactuers warranty.

Worst service EVER. I feel like a mug.

Aghhhh

I order a pentax camera from these people 5 days ago and it still hasn't been dispatched - despite the fact that their website ways it is in stock. They took the money immediately though! Rang customer services and was given very vague explanation and no firm idea of when the camera would be dispatched! I need this camera for my hols!

Anyway,. I have just now emailed them cancelling my order and requesting a full refund through paypal. I'll keep you informed. Would be interested to hear others experiences of this dodgy firm.

(I'm just glad it was a £80 camera and not an £800 one!)

Ok, first and foremost, let me assure you that I am in no way related, connected or affiliated to Simply Electronics.

On the 7th of July I ordered a Canon 5DMkII body off their website, as I was extremely attracted by their competitive rates as well as their promise of short delivery time. I was also impressed by the well-laid out website and its ease of use.

Two days after, I noted that my order was not saved in the Order History section on my account, and I instinctively Googled their name and stumbled upon this Forum.

I was immediately taken aback by one of the longest threads that I have ever read (now locked), full of negative reviews and comments about the service at SE. Obviously, I got quite worried as this camera is not exactly cheap, and started email communications with SE inquiring about when I should expect my order to be shipped.

All of my emails were always replied in a professional manner and without delay... I must admit that I was quite on edge, and when the 5th working day had passed I sent an email out to Vanessa Carroll, their Customer Service Manager.

This email was also promptly replied to, and Vanessa also promised me that she had seen to my order being sent out for packaging and that it would be shipped out by 6pm on that same day.

Lo and behold, I received another email on the eve of that day (14th July), stating that the item had been shipped out at 6:10pm and was given a UPS tracking number.

The item was delivered to me yesterday afternoon.

To all those of you here who might have read all those negative comments about the service at SE, what I can say is this: From my personal experience, this company has offered nothing short of an exceptional service, and I definitely would not hesitate to continue doing business with them.

Item was:
  • Packaged in a professional manner, well sealed and well protected against bumps, etc
  • Box contents exactly as advertised.
  • Canon camera box sealed. All components inside sealed.
  • All utility CDs included.
  • Battery charger with UK and Europe compliant power cable and plug.
  • Original instruction booklet in English
So, for those who have just read that 1200-and-something post long thread about the service at SE... I would say that it might be that back along the years their service could or might have been so and so... but from my personal experience their service is top-notch and the money was well-paid.

Yeah, like many others, I wish I had seen these threads before I'd bought from Simply Electronics.

I bought a mobile phone from them in January. I had similar issues with the delivery of the product: later than promised.

However, I'm now having a far greater problem with them. Towards the end of July, the touch screen on my phone became unresponsive and nothing, not even a hard reset, could fix it. I followed the repair instructions on the Simply Electronics website and had the phone sent to them via special delivery on Friday 23rd July. I tracked the delivery and they received it on Monday 26th July. One month later, and there is still no sign of my phone being repaired! The only correspondence I get back is to say that these things take time and a full assessment needs to be carried out.

Is there anything I can do? Do I have any rights here?

In comparison, my xbox developed a fault earlier this year. I sent it away for repair. Within a couple of weeks, I received a replacement xbox, along with a note saying that as the repair was taking longer than expected, they hoped this replacement would allow me to continue enjoying their as quickly as possible.

Is it too much to ask for Simply Electronics to offer something similar?

www.simplyelectronics.net DO NOT BUY FROM THEM

WARNING

To cut a long story short I purchased a 900 Euro Canon Macro lens from their website. I phoned the day before I was told 20 in stock. I ordered the next day by their website, I received no confirmation number, no order number no date of delivery. I cancelled the order immediately however, they took the money from my credit card immediately. 12 phone calls, 20 emails and countless threats of legal action and reporting them to Watchdog.co.uk. I finally got my money back after a long battle. I was out of pocket for over a month, even though I cancelled my order 2 days later. It takes 24 hours to process a refund and Simply Electronics took over a month.

This company should be removed from the web {edited by Moderator}. I learnt my lesson and will never ever go near them again. I am very careful when it comes to buying online and do my research, I know you have to take the good with the bad, so I gave them a chance. How wrong could I be, they are by far the worst company I have every dealt with... so please please please do not waste your time and money with them no matter how cheap you think the deal or offer is.

I was lucky to get my money back, {edited by Moderator}. I have since found some horror stories of buyers who have lost thousands through there website, ending up with faulty or no goods and no refund.

THIS REVIEW IS BANG UPTO DATE 2010 NOVEMBER.. TAKE MY ADVICE DO NOT PART WITH YOUR MONEY. I would suggest Amazon ANYDAY

I HOPE SIMPLY ELECTRONICS YOU GET TO READ THIS YOU BLOG YOU SO DESERVE IT AND I HOPE YOU GET SHUT DOWN...

By the way they do not have UK distribution Branch, {edited by Moderator}

HOPE THIS HELPS OTHERS TO STAY AWAY...

Angry Simply Electronics - What a sham !!!

Ordered a Kodak Playsport 8 weeks ago.
2 weeks later it was eventually delivered however the screen was broken! whata let down.
Sent a picture of the damage immediately and requested a replacement of course they then stated that I needed to fill out a returns form and send back to them - this I did.

A further 2 weeks later they responded after many emails stating that the return was beinbg assessed ( not sure why it needs assessing just turn the bkloody thing on! AND SEE) Hardly rocket science.

A few more weeks rolled on. Have now had e-mail stating that refund will be sent in next few days that was 11 days ago!! Phoned again today ' they will chase up accounts dept' would not agree to send me a copy of their e-mail to the accounts dept though.

Warning - DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY IF YOU HAVE HIGH BLOO PRESSURE AS MY BLOOD IS STARTING TO BOIL!!

Shamefull service inept copmpany do not use.

SIMPLY ELECTRONICS - AVOID AVOID AVOID

I had been tracking Simply for the price of a Panasonic projector for over a year now, so stupidly assumed that they were a bona fide company as they had been around for so long.

So I ordered a Sonos wifi sound system through them in early November. It was stated as being in stock.

Since then nothing, no news, no dispatch. Tried to contact by phone. Nothing. Tried to contact by email, nothing. Asking for refund, nothing.

How can this site still be trading? Why is noone shutting it down? They blatantly lie about havving goods in stock when they do not. And surely the fact that you will have to pay VAT on top should be emblazoned in red over every price? Why does Visa continue to allow them to process payments??!

To be fair, Simply did finally deliver my Sonos stuff. All original, in box, and no duty to pay. Communication from them wasn't too bad either. Took 2 weeks in the end.

So they are at least making an effort.

I was told by my Visa company that I wasn't protected in any way.....

Dont buy from simply electronic.net

Orded a Logitech G27 from Simply Electronics over a month ago only to find out 10 days later then never had the item in stock and that they had taken my money knowing this fact. Requested my money back and ever since been fobbed off with your refund request is being processed. This is 2010 it takes hours to refund money not weeks or months. Wish i had read more about other peoples views and expericences before shelling out my hard earned money.

Think all the people who have been had like me should contact Watch Dog and get this company shamed and shut down.

WARNING **I suggest DO NOT BUY FROM THESE PEOPLE**
I can't say strongly enough what a bad firm they are, they take your money, don't send the goods and avoid credits. Nothing is what they say it is. There is something seriously wrong with this firm, they ask for colour copies of cards, utility bills and passports etc. I wished I had checked them out more before dealing with them. My understanding is that I have protection because I've used a Credit not a Debit card, otherwise I'd fear I would have lost circa £1000. If I could make it my life's work to stop them I would, in fairness I've seen comments that goods do arrive on time etc but the minute I questioned a transaction on the Simply web site everything changed and I'm battling to get my money back

Unfortunately I too have a horror story to share about this company. Just before Christmas, my mother purchased a Canon camera from Simply Electronics as a Christmas present for my Grandmother.
The camera came quickly enough but it was soon apparent that there was a fault with the camera; specifically with the charger.

I contacted SE and informed them of the issue and was told to fill out the returns paperwork, which I quickly did. I returned the camera and requested a refund as the item was faulty. They said they would need to inspect it to see whether there was truly a fault to which I agreed.

About a week later they emailed back to say they had tested the camera and concluded that it was indeed a charger fault, and that they would be sending a replacement camera; despite me requesting a refund instead (as a replacement camera had already been purchased from Argos).
I informed SE of this and they said that was fine, and a refund would be issued shortly. This is where my tale gets ugly.

They said that they would be issuing a refund within "the next few days". This was back in January. After numerous follow up emails I am still being told that it will be done within "the next few days". I have told them I will seek legal aid before too long, but this does not seem to have quickened up the pace. Quite frankly I'll be amazed if I get the money back at all now.

So yeah, I would strongly recommend that you do yourself a favour and stay away from Simply Electronics at all costs.

P.S. You lot seem pretty knowledgeable on here. If I were to seek legal aid, do you know where I would have to start? I'm in the UK BTW. Cheers guys.
